I rode the 4 Gorges here in Sydney this morning with a mate. We have to drive up to the meet point (well, you can ride it but it becomes a full day rather than half and I didn't have the time) Anyway, for anybody who can't fit a roof rack to their car may I suggest the Seasucker. www.seasucker.com.au A superb idea that works really well. I bought a 2 bike rack and you just place the front section on, pump up the cups and the forks of the bike sit in the quick release skewer.

The rear wheel sits on a separate cup and is held on with a velcro strap.

2 bikes. My Lynskey and my mate's Litespeed. Perfect for the 6er, no faffing about taking off all the wheels and squeezing one in the boot and the other behind the seats. A couple of minutes to fit and absolutely rock solid.

A godsend to anybody with a car like mine.

I did the Cadel ride last year, another whole day of riding into a headwind doesn't have a lot of appeal. I'll probably do the Alpine Classic though

Yeah cause that's fun Climbing Mount Buffalo when it's 38 in the shade...

TdU is the event to go to... sadly I'll be OS on business this year. I've done the original Amy's ride on a lot of the road Cadel's ride goes on, usually windy on the 2nd half of the ride when your tired. I'll be down that way for 10 days over Chrismas, looking forward to some flat lander km's to get some weight off.

It is great fun climbing Buffalo when it's 38 because the higher you go the cooler it gets. Then there's the downhill...

I've run over a black snake, nearly run over a 2m tiger snake and nearly been killed by a Discovery coming around a blind corner on my side of the road because it couldn't wait 30s to overtake a cyclist cycling up the mountain so I take Buffalo very carefully but then I do it most weekends

Buffalo is my favorite climb, so spectacular and varied terrain. I used to bomb descents but have tamed in the last years. The year I got the Strava ranking I was talking to ride buddy at the brewery and he couldn't remember the descent[emoji15]... That was the last time I did the AAC. Too hot most years and potentially very dangerous to push pas your limits

I think that I'll only do the 70km ride this year, my bike frame broke at the beginning of November and I'm still waiting for the free replacement frame so i'm down to only 1 bike, it means that I can't do any riding in Melbourne at the moment and right now I'm here most of the time

I'm riding the Cadel Evans 114 km in Jan, Ballarat cycle classic 100km in feb and the M.S 50 km ride so far next year.

Don't know about climbing Buffalo I'm not to thrilled with climbing hills, the hardest climb I have completed so far is to Kinglake via the St Andrews Kinglake rd.

As some of you are aware I only started riding this January, and dropped from 93kg down to current 77kg. So far this year I have done nearly 7000 km, so I'm pretty happy.

looking forward to more challengers next year.

I also upgraded my bike a month back to a Trek Emonda SL6, and I am just loving it.

Nice pick up and great weight loss. I'm above your peak weight now, have put on 13 kgs since having kids so not anywhere near as much time for riding. I'll probably sneak in close to 2500 this year but will be joining the Strava Xmas challenge, which is doing 500km between Christmas eve and new year. I'll be on holidays so will be able to get out most days.

Those Italian bike mirrows I linked a while back are having a 1 off free shipping day today (site wide) which makes them much more attractive as shipping was a major component of the total cost.

Great stuff, thanks for the link. I have a friend that I ride with who has one of those on each of her bikes and wouldn't ride without one. I shall pick one up and give it a go with the free postage. As a Christmas treat for myself I reckon a pair of titanium bottle cages for the Lynskey would be the go  :D

put my helmet for this morning's ride and my helmet light was flat - what a difference - pardon the pun, night and day, I was so much more invisible to cars entering on my left

won't do that again, but I was extra careful

Were you? Don't rely on lights to keep you safe. Ride with caution but be assertive. Unless you have a light canon on your helmet, it won't make much difference during daylight. Unfortunately light canons are big and have potential to cause injury in a stack. That's why I use helmet specific lights which will easily come away in a stack.

I never wear dark clothing and try to keep contrast as high as possible.

Currently at the hospital with a mate who dropped it mtbing with me this morning. Bit of a nasty gouge in his arm. His LBS sadly had sold him a new Trek with basically a slick on the front. Next stop my LBS for a new tyre!

Yeh, that's how I ride and I can only report what I experience - on several rides with the light on and me specifically looking directly at the car, there was no doubt by the eye contact that they saw me via the flashing light directed at them, so IME one doesn't need a light cannon

today, several instances where they had to look twice and one started to just move - handlebar light pointing in the direction of the bars was not enough and there were enough instances to convince me of the benefit of the helmet light

not being argumentative, just sharing my experience in case it helps others

Today is forecast to be a bit of a stinker so I was up at 4-30 to beat the heat and out by 5. It was a beautiful morning alongside the M7 and certainly beats lying in bed.
