Jake Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Thats really bad news RD. I hope the bastard gets caught, and most importantly you get your bike back. I'd be furious if I lost mine. Good luck with it, keep us posted. Cheers, Jake
Guest JohnA Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 That sucks big time rippingdragon. hope they do get caught and bike recovered. post it up on bicycles victoria so others can keep an eye out for it also
NellyJamba Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Sorry to hear that rippingdragon. I know it must have felt like crap. I hope those lowly pos get caught soon and you can get your bike back.
rippingdragon Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I would much rather the punks get caught than recover the bike (that's why I got insurance in the first place - well that and accidental crash damage). What upset me the most was something I worked hard for disappeared in 3 minutes. Even more so, the cops said the guys operating in such a way were likely to dump the bike very quickly for $100-200 despite the value of the bike... What chumps. Would inconvenience someone so greatly for such a paltry sum. I'd be spewing even more if I wasn't insured.
NellyJamba Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 The thieves, hoons and gangsters we have in the city is itself, worth bringing back medieval punishments. I used to remember Melbourne being so safe. John A, after all the stories I've heard about Beach Road crushes, I reckon it is not worth riding in the rain. I've got no confidence in my tyres and road handling in the wet. Btw, I have an unused rear mudguard. Happy to let it go for 5 bucks since I reckon I won't be riding in the rain. Let me know if any of you guys are interested.
emesbee Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 That really sucks. Obviously the lock was no deterrent. Maybe there are professional bicycle thieves around, seeing that cycling has become so popular, and there are some expensive bicycles around.
Guest JohnA Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 insurance is a must on expensive bikes, but i'd still hate to have it stolen. Nelly, no problem with grip on wet roads, but if its very bad i'll take the hybrid out instead
rippingdragon Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 That really sucks. Obviously the lock was no deterrent. Maybe there are professional bicycle thieves around, seeing that cycling has become so popular, and there are some expensive bicycles around. Absolutely. The coppers said as much. They think there are quite a few organised groups running around doing it as they are receiving a lot of stolen reports. I'm amazed that they operate during such busy hours too... In my case, the witnesses saw a car pull up with 2 people in it (and a few bikes in the back). Shortly there after they saw one of the guys cycle away with the bike I had just locked up. Luckily one of the guys was a keen cyclist and I therefore remembered the bike and thought something was amiss and was very diligent in taking down the details of the car. If a conviction is made it's worth being without a bike for a bit because my bike could have been the sacrificial lamb that stops more bike thefts in the future.
joz Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 With all the keen cyclists around here,I was wondering how many if any have suffered from road rage being taken out against them??
Jake Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 With all the keen cyclists around here,I was wondering how many if any have suffered from road rage being taken out against them?? Yeah Joz, a little bit. Strangely I only suffer it when Im riding in my proper cycling gear. But when Im on the same bike and wearing a t-shirt, ID around my neck, and a backpack I get a lot more respect as it is apparent Im going to work. Luckily for me we have 3 local police in our riding group, they take the numbers of the more aggressive drivers and go and have a little chat with them Cheers, Jake
Jake Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 Just got home from a 63km ride, after a full nightshift. Thats the 2nd time Ive done this this week, and like the first time, Im completely wasted. Really good for the weight loss Cheers, Jake
joz Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I must try it one day and see wehat all this bike riding fuss is all about?
Jake Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 I must try it one day and see wehat all this bike riding fuss is all about? PAIN. Cycling is all about pain.
davidsss Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Joz, we all need exercise and there are a variety of ways of getting exercise. Riding a bike is fun for a lot of people and, as such, is a great form of exercise as you actually do it, rather than missing the gym time or whatever. Pity about the bike Rippingdragon, they are easy to steal. I had a few stolen when I was a kid and they were my only form of transport. As for road rage I've not really encountered it. However, there are a hell of a lot of cyclists who give the rest of us a bad name. Riding past stationary trams in Swanston St is my pet peeve - you ain't supposed to ride past until the tram is moving. Mind you those electric signs in town saying to give way to pedestrians getting on and off trams are misleading - a stationary tram (doors open or closed) is a stop sign not a give way sign. DS
proftournesol Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 PAIN.Cycling is all about pain. Jake you miss the point, it's transcendence through pain:)

NellyJamba Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 mostly when I ride through bogan-land - Aspendale to Frankston:( It is almost typical. And it has got to be Ute drivers. What the hell. You wonder where the hell were these people as the society progresses.
