EDGEAUDIO Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Item: Rare COUNTERPOINT SA-1000 Hybrid Tube Pre-Amp with matching SA-12 Hybrid Tube/Mosfet AmpLocation: Engadine, SydneyPrice: $950Item Condition: PristineReason for selling: Reluctant Sale but no room for usePayment Method: Pickup - CashExtra Info: Hand built and designed is the USA by Michael Elliott who still owns Alta Vista Audio. Most of the products at the time were ground breaking with their simplistic design and dynamic performance. The sound that these designs produce is addictive. The amount of older music I replayed through these units is amazing. Just wanted to hear them again with some very detailed reproduction. Good recordings are enhanced but at the same time bad recordings go the opposite way. As with all praise for these Counterpoint units they can be finicky. Although they have excellent build quality the electronic components from the 80's have life-limits. That said, both these units have been upgraded with superior modern components for reliability without compromising sound quality. The SA-12 has new balanced and matched MOSFETS that took many moons to source. All CAPS and other wear & tear items were replaced. The SA-1000 had a balance issue on the Phono Stage which was just a transistor which was replaced along with the others associated. New balanced Russian Tubes were also installed. The Pre-Amp has never sounded better. All these repairs were carried out by very reputable repairers who understand these type of designs. The SA-1000 Phono-Stage is exceptional to my ears. Many reviews have the same conclusion. The best way I can describe the sound is warm but very detailed. The SA-12 has excellent drive and deceiving with it's power output. Very neutral with it's sound. Perfectly complements the SA-1000. Both units have their original packaging Pictures: Edited January 7, 2016 by EDGEAUDIO
