jutta Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I am running an oppo 103 at the moment. I think it has a decent DAC. Please correct me if I'm wrong.I'd say no based on my experience. Can't listen to music thru my 103 connected to x4000. Horrible sound. It's a great bluray player however Gone back to a 2ch HT bypass setup.
illusion Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Yamaha's pre-outs work at 0.9v... Emotiva works at 2v. I learnt this the hard way a while back when i had a Yamaha Aventage hooked to a XPA-5... Sounded very average. In short, the line level of the pre needs to needs to be matched to power amp. So I'd recommend either buying an amp that suits the line level of the Yamaha or buy a new receiver that suits Emotiva line level. @@atty the XPA-1L Gen 1 have a 2V (Pre in) as you say, my amp has 1V (Pre out), I haven't noticed any problem at all. How significant is matching the preouts to the preins?

How significant is matching the preouts to the preins? From memory you loose 7 db in gain. The only way to really tell how significant the effect is to source a pre-amp that has 2v line level out. Im unsure as to why Emotiva has chosen to to use 2v as their line level, as it seems that 0.9v is the HiFi standard. You could also buy a balanced mini-dsp which is capable of running 0.9v in and 2v out.
illusion Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Not sure I would want to mess with anything that's not needed. These Emotiva's push the Sonus Faber's hard enough for me.
praljak Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 I have narrowed my amplifier choice for my Triton 1's down to two, the Emotiva XPA 1Ls or the Anthem MCA 20. I can get the Anthem for $1850 brand new and the Emotivas for $2360 for the pair, also brand new. Would there be a preference for either of these two choices?

Hi mate, I'm guessing you're unable to test the Tritons with either of those amps. Quite a few people on the GoldenEar forum (on their website) are happy with Emotiva gear but I've never heard it all together to be honest. Emotiva are now selling around Australia but I'm not sure how easy it is to borrow gear for home trials. Stereophonic now sell both Emotiva and GoldenEar so you could probably get a complete demo in their store but that's in Melbourne. Cheers :-)
Wayne Elliott Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Just a heads up Emotiva are selling the XPA-2 for US$719 currently. Although our dollar is horrible @ the moment.
praljak Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 I'm thinking that price is not going to help me though. The XPA-2 is still the same price here......
praljak Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 I ended up purchasing a Musical Fidelity M6500i, which has a HT bypass. I pick it up at the end of March. I am looking forward to hearing it with my Trito 1's. I also purchased an Oppo 105D. My wife has now informed me that the budget has now been blown and I will need to enjoy my new 'toys' for a while before making any more purchases.
