Anyone else using these?

https://flic.io/

I have three of them in my media room controlling LIFX globes.

1 at each entrance/exit to the room - one click turns all lights on to 100% white, double click turns all off.

The 3rd switch is actually stuck to the centre console of the cinema seats. 1 click = all off. 2 clicks = all on. Hold = put lights into music mode (9 lights off, 3 front ones on 25% blue/purple).

I must admit after a few firmware updates recently they're working superbly now.

Via IFTTT and more platforms however, the possibilities of what you can do with this switch are endless.

Yeah I guess so. I love tech, and love integration. Sadly, it's all restricted by my small (non-existent) budget :)

Hi Marc,

I'm looking for a solution as not happy with my Clipsal IR switches and standard halogen lights. I'm guessing you can have a standard wall switch (or dimmer switch) at the entrance and then flic switch at the seats? Can you also set multiple more elaborate "scenes" as I can use my Logitech Ultimate remote for extra.

Also considering the Osram Lightify

It's very universal, and yes you can still have wall overrides.

You can integrate it with your LIFX recipes, so the possibilities are endless, although the recipes can get confusing with multiple layers.

Looking for a very reliable solution without spending fortune. I have 2 Clipsal ir dimmers controlling 6 halogens in my ht room. 2 over the "stage" area and 4 over the seating. I was able to have scenes where stage would be bright so I could see equipment or Bluray library, with seating quite dim. I had 4 variations of these scenes but 1 switch broke (misuse by a baby sitter) and they are no longer available n black. I want idiot proof switches that don't confuse guests, but have options for scenes, Colour variations are a bonus, not a requirement.

how many individual "groups" lights do you actually have?

edit - you mentioned you have clipsal IR switches. do you have a central location the lights all go back to? where you have a bunch of relays etc or are they all in the switch plates.

2 switches, so 2 groups, I guess any relays etc are in the switch body. The 2 halogens in the stages area on 1 switch and 4 halogens over 2 rows of seating on the other. They are basically smart switches, IR on/off + dimming. You can set predetermined "scenes" with specific dimming to the remote or logitech harmony.

Interesting that you swapped the function of single and double taps from the exits to the couch. Was that planned? Every mind works differently I guess but I find that counter intuitive.

I'm looking into Lifx globes further. I note they suggest to not use metal fittings to place them in. I would of thought most recessed ceiling fittings would be metal. Was this an issue for you or did you already have the globes when fittings were chosen?

i would imagine he swapped the click functions because the one in the centre consoles purpose is to turn the lights off when you sit down to watch a movie.

For you - have you ever looked at z-wave lighting?

i havent played around with it yet myself as i have full c-bus throughout and its what i use on jobs but you use a Z-wave controller like this: Vera lite

http://zwave.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=61

A remote like this

http://zwave.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=14

You have dimming relays that go inside the switchplate

http://zwave.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=11

Or they have a range of switches and relays together

You can then program it like you had it before.

I'm thinking about picking up a 4 pack of these for controlling my lifx bulbs and perhaps a few other IFTTT recipes, I've got a couple of questions though that I hope you guys can answer.

* Will they automatically pair to another device if the device they are paired to leaves the house?

* I have an iPad thats always in the house that I could pair them with, what's the range like?

* What's the delay for a simple thing like switching a bulb on? I have 100/40 NBN so the connection to the IFTTT shouldn't be an issue.

1. I haven't tried this, sorry.

2. I have a dedicated iPad that lives in the media room/adjoining office area. I've never taken it beyond this area so I can't really comment on range. I'll have to test this later.

3. It seems to vary. The delay comes through IFTT which sometimes is nearly instant, other times it's taken as long as 10 seconds (or more).

Received these yesterday... Only a 6 week wait for a package slightly larger than a pack of cards.

We have a couple set up .You know to solve important first world problems like the Geek warming up the espresso machine from a Uni lecture theatre before he catches the tram home. Or turning off the slow cooker

Work perfectly.

His claim was he could turn them on from Venice <I declined to finance this experiment.

Worked from Cairns

We all use it via iPhone apps so iPad would be no worry

No delay turn on is instant

When we first bought these switches in April I was quisical.

Now I use them constantly

At the time I grilled the geek as to how reliable they'd be as switching from more distant locations geek claimed he could turn the coffee machine on from any where in the world

no luck from Cuba last week there is effectively no wifi there

He just turned it on and off several times from Amsterdam.

the original promise was from Prague

i live in hope of a wifi break down there  so I can claim victory
