Nine months of supposedly careful and considered planning was followed by six months of gruelling anticipation.

Only then came the various hurdles, setbacks and obstacles that one encounters once the physical structure was complete and the product (when received) is ready to be installed and activated.

The end result ?

Simply Stunning :) IF you have a dedicated, well proportioned space and have a serious interest in Home Theatre then 3D Audio is a must. This is not your Grandads' Dolby "Pro-Logic". Atmos (and soon DTS:X for my pre/pro) are several orders of magnitude more capable than the simple reverb-sniffing-and-pushing-to-rear-channel devices of the 1990's.

I opted for Krix Atmospherix A20 in-ceiling speakers due to their internally angled 2-way construction and fully sealed-back can for peace of mind in the roof. Directing the tweeters to the listening position for all four modules helps alleviate the slight inconsistently in their placement due the location of ceiling joists, lighting and plumbing.

Audessey in it's current "Multi EQ XT32" derivative does, in my opinion - an excellent job, although in my custom-built, symmetrical environment one would like to think so ! I have never experienced such a coherent enveloping soundfield - this is what we were promised almost twenty years ago with "AC3" for the home and it has finally arrived.

The picture ? In my case it's a 79 inch LED which is wide colour gamut (10 bit) capable but sadly lacks true HDR, that will have to wait now for a possible projector in the future. 4K content from Netflix and YouTube (via NBN) certainly gives a glimpse to the potential of UHD but I'll reserve my judgement for UHD-bluray material due to be released shortly.

The little Sony BDP-S6500 does a great job upsampling current bluray material - which actually benefits from the process, I believe - I'm seeing details like never before, along with smoother colour gradations, particularly the gamma in shadows and blacks and most significantly the treatment of reds which always seem to be difficult to render correctly.

Reference film-as-art like Baraka with it's true 24/94 DTS-MA soundtrack have had new like breathed into them. I now look forward to re-watching all my films to soak in the fidelity which this system has unleashed, just like how one used to go back to old CD's when a new CDP or DAC had been acquired.

The little Sony disc spinner is DSD and SACD capable and so a romp thru DSOTM proved quite thrilling, particularly since the Marantz AV7702mkII pre/pro is capable of processing DSD natively with Audessey EQ intact.

For stereo listening I prefer the EQ-corrected mode as opposed to the "pure" alternative, with the Adam Audio F7's being seamlessly integrated to the SVS SB-2000's to produce a fully-fleshed, extremely wide and deep stage.

Right now the power cable at the rear of the room is an eyesore but this will be dealt with once the triple-recliner arrives.

Acoustic treatments will also be revisited when time and funds permit.

There's so much more I could say but I just want to get back to the Room !

The Room -

4.7m Wide 6.3m Deep 2.7m High

- R2.5 Acoustic Rockwool insulation

- Gyprock SoundCheck 13mm Plasterboard

- Double Glazed highline windows

- Dedicated 32 Amp circuit

- SolidCore 920mm wide interior door

The Gear:

Panel - LG 79UF950T

Pre/Pro - Marantz AV7702mkII

Power Amp - Marantz MM7055 (for the four in-ceiling speakers)

L/C/R array - Adam Audio F7

Surround/Back array - Adam Audio F5

Subwoofers - SVS SB-2000

BDP - Sony BDP-S6500

Foxtel - iQ3

Stereo Source - Mac Air (2013), Audivana, Vue USB, Peatchtree Audio X1 SPDIF convertor, Blue Jeans RCA

XLR Cabling - custom by Blue Jeans Cable

BassTraps - Echohush

Treatment - generic studio egg convolute

Chair - Recliner by IMG (model name escapes me)

And Finally.....

Very nice lilC great to see approach you have gone in gear and config.

It sure is a new frontier ! Am very excited about it....got the display capability myself now just not the 3D audio setup, and great to hear the 3D audio working a treat. Krix makes some great in ceiling speakers too purpose built for it makes very easy :)

Definitely if going the projector down the track it's something will be mind blowing your room config perfectly suits with either a drop down in front of the flat panel or large expanse of screen. The two windows on the right be easily taken care off as well for full light control. @@Quark here uses a clarke rubber inserts for his windows to great effect.

Thanks Al.

Really looking forward to UHD now - and my DTS:X upgrade.  Not due until March I believe for the AV7702MkII.

For my 8802 the dts-X update came through last week ? You sure your update hasn't come through as well ? Can't imagine it being different for the 7702mk2 ?

...sadly there is a delay, planned it would seem. I read a timetable on the dts site last week - the Dennon 7200wa was first, then your Av8802a.

Yes March 3rd for the 7702 mkII apparently, I should be getting the update for my Denon next week.

Great looking system LilC, definitely look at a projector down the line, you'll be blown away.

Looks fantastic, well done. Atmos sounds exciting but gebus, lots of new gear required for it. My Pre/pro is only 3 years old.

Will you be getting a sparky in to place power on side and rear walls? Could run your XLRs in wall as well at the same time or use what I have on 1 wall of my HT room, a conduit skirting board.

yes I remember reading something about  staggered roll out to save their servers going into melt down ! even mine was delayed  day or so from when the us guys got theres. anyways not far way. though dts-x wise theres nothing aussie market wise with regards disc material unless getting from the us. and then theres ex machina and last with hunter.

Ah well I kinda missed my chance during the build. It was a struggle to retrofit the Foxtel and run the speaker cable for the height channels due to the insulation let alone all the power lines I now need and xlr. Word of advice to anyone contemplating a dedicated room - make a clear decision before the plaster goes up. At that stage I was still agonising between active and passive speakers.

LC I missed my opportunity running cables before plaster stage when our place was being build. had arranged with builder to let me know when I could run cables....and when they told me I went that weekend to only find the plasterers had already been. took me 10+ years after that to run cables in wall for my surrounds ...in the last year hehe

always harder after...but not impossible...I plan to do the 3D audio thing as a retro fit....a bit of a challenge...but not insurmountable....just time money effort and god I get a headache just thinking about it hehe

Yep I have both discs from the US sitting there waiting to be played when my speakers are installed and the dts:x update is done.

I have my 6'3" slave , sorry, son who will be getting sent into the roof space to install the new speakers.   :P  :D

Great looking system. The 7702mk2 made a significant improvement in my system.

Regarding the cables - I managed to hide a lot of it using a product from Bunnings that sticks to the skirting boards and has a cavity. Works well and looks good.

My one replaces the skirting board and is a more residential looking version of the type of cable routing you see in modern office buildings. Also sourced from Bunnings as a special order.

You can see it in the bottom right of this photo. From memory it is also available in grey or white. It's plastic so won't dent like office conduit does. Mines not even stuck to the wall, just sitting in place. Can't remember the name though

Very nice new room LC, I'm jealous already.

I know 90 degrees is in the Atmos guidelines for side speakers, but it is usually a 'less preferred' angle for music, so maybe try 110 degrees which is also in the Atmos guidelines. Just a lil thought.

cheers

Awesome room, nice work! With the single listening chair you've also subtly advised other people in the house they are not to be in the room.... ever!

Ah well not quite it's temporary :)  A triple recliner is on its way.

…time to resurrect this old thread and treat it with some respect :).  Some changes are happening, beginning with this ominous scene….IMG_0615.thumb.jpeg.3fcea31367df5c45034fe6627b0cfadf.jpeg
