Polestar has begun rolling out a new over-the-air (OTA) update for its flagship Polestar 3 electric SUV, introducing a feature that promises to deliver the unmistakable acoustic signature of Abbey Road Studios—right from the driver’s seat.

Following previous StereoNET coverage of Volvo's collaboration with Abbey Road Studios and Bowers & Wilkins, and the Dirac-Polestar partnership, this latest innovation sees the iconic London recording facility extending its influence into Polestar's high-end in-car audio offering. The new Abbey Road Studios Mode will be available exclusively to owners of Polestar 3 models equipped with the optional Bowers & Wilkins 25-speaker audio system.

Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, said:

The Bowers & Wilkins sound system in Polestar 3 is already world class, but this new Abbey Road Studios Mode takes it to another level. You’d swear you were right there in the legendary London building, not driving a performance SUV.

According to Polestar, the feature introduces “a listening experience inspired by the sonic signature of Abbey Road Studios.” It includes four tailored sound presets—Intimate, Open, Energised, and Expansive—alongside a customisable Producer Mode, all designed in collaboration with Abbey Road’s own engineers.

Each of the four modes offers a distinct flavour of studio-inspired sound. Intimate recreates the experience of sitting in the producer’s chair, with a warm, detailed and vintage-tinged presentation that brings the listener closer to the performance. Open emulates the ambience of a live recording space, offering an authentic, spacious sound as if you're right there with the artists. Energised delivers a vibrant and lively character, fusing vintage warmth with vivid detail to capture the excitement of a session in full swing. Finally, Expansive enhances depth, dynamic punch and scale—producing a broad, cinematic soundscape that evokes the energy and immersion of a live performance. For those seeking more control, Producer Mode allows users to shape the tonal balance and ambience in real time, drawing from the sonic DNA of Abbey Road's rooms and equipment to craft a tailored in-cabin experience.

Sally Davies, Managing Director of Abbey Road Studios, added:

The partnership continues our collaboration with Bowers & Wilkins to develop products in the consumer audio space, and further extends our expansion into automotive audio as, for the first time, Abbey Road’s sonic DNA shapes the listening experience in the Polestar 3.

Dan Shepherd, VP Licensing and Partnerships at Bowers & Wilkins, echoed the sentiment:

We have succeeded in our aim to bring to life the distinctive characteristics of the studio experience and add the ability to explore and personalise your listening experience.”

Complementing the acoustic tuning, each preset is accompanied by a bespoke image from the Abbey Road archive, displayed in high resolution on the Polestar 3’s 14.5-inch touchscreen. The system itself features Dolby Atmos support, Bowers & Wilkins' proprietary Continuum cone drivers, 3D surround sound, and active road noise cancellation, powered by a 1,610-watt amplifier across 25 strategically positioned speakers.

The Abbey Road Studios Mode forms part of a broader OTA update that also introduces features such as Stolen Vehicle Tracking and Smart Schedule for charging—further reinforcing Polestar’s commitment to enhancing the driving experience long after delivery.

In-car audio continues to be an evolving frontier for collaboration between audio and automotive pioneers, and this latest update is yet another example of how far we've come from tinny factory speakers. With this latest move, Polestar, Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road Studios are ensuring that the road ahead sounds better than ever.
