An Aussie Story: Bruns Acoustics

Bruns Acoustics are changing things up a little. They don't support the notion of a 'throw away society', and are prepared to challenge the status quo of the consumer electronics industry.

As a small group of designers and audio professionals, they left the corporate world behind and set up base in Brunswick Valley, on the north coast of NSW.

Bruns Acoustics hand build their unique products one-by-one, but not only that, have set limits in production volume to ensure they maintain their promise of superior quality. A boutique brand with a genuine concern and passion for the environment, Bruns Acoustics don't aspire to be sold in mass-market retailers.

"Our team is small, but across the five partners we have 50 combined years in product design and acoustic product development", Sandy Morrows, one of the Bruns Acoustics partners, told StereoNET.

The production process happens entirely on-site. From the milling of the locally sourced, salvaged timber logs to wiring the speakers. The whole team works hands-on in the workshop, as well as all playing a role in the day to day running of the company.

Sandy continued, "We often wonder what happened to the days when things were built to last and why consumers accept the poor quality throw away products when it doesn't have to be like that. We're trying to bring back the old world values when products were made to last a lifetime."

The Timbre is the first product released by Bruns Acoustics.

THE RELIC SERIES - Used and worn like your favorite pair of jeans the relic series has the mojo of an instrument that's been gigged for years. Worn finishes, aged parts, rusted hardware and nostalgic colour combinations give it the vintage vibe.

THE CLASSIC SERIES - The classic series is inspired by the natural beauty of select premium timbers. Each speaker is grain matched from a single piece of timber and fitted with polished hardware, hand dyed leather handle and black cloth grills.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
