ARCAM ANNOUNCES AFFORDABLE INTEGRATED AMPS AND SACD PLAYER

The newly owned HARMAN boutique audio brand Arcam has an enviable track record when it comes to disc players and integrated amplifiers.
In fact, it’s a bit of a wiz when it comes to hammering out value-for-money amps and an SACD player the calibre of its new SA10 and SA20 integrated amps and CDS50 SACD/CD player.
The latter is a really well-endowed machine and will handle network streaming duties as well as making sweet sounds spinning SACD or CD discs.
Arcam is fairly crowing about the CDS50 and clearly sees it as a wee bit special, and that’s why it’s described as lifting the performance bar for similarly priced models.
But here’s the thing: Arcam also says it’s the brand’s finest audio disc spinner it has released, period! Take that to the bank.
Arcam backs up this claim by making haste to point out that an ESS Sabre 9308 Reference DAC technology lurks inside the CDS50 along with a precision re-clocking system and a specially designed power supply.
Buyers will applaud Arcam giving the new player both single-ended and XLR output connections.
The icing on this delectable player is a backlit remote control. The CDS50 can also be controlled over IP using Arcam’s iOS app, MusicLife or by RS232 control for custom installers.
Other handy features include two digital inputs, one optical and one SPDIF. The CDS50 replaces the CDS27. Price is £699.
The SA10 integrated amplifier replaces the long-running A19 model. Arcam describes it as an ultra-low distortion type Class A/B model similar to the A19.
It has five analogue inputs including one which is switchable between Line Level or Moving Magnet input. The SA10 carries three digital inputs made up of two SPDIF and one optical and a built-in ESS Sabre 9016 DAC. Price is £699.
Power rating is 50 watts per channel. The SA10 also comes with a backlit remote.
The SA20 integrated amplifier builds on the performance of the A29. The S20 uses Arcam’s highly-regarded proprietary Class G technology and is rated at 80 watts per channel into 8ohms. But it can deliver just under 20 watts in pure Class A mode.
The SA20’s output and input connections are the same as those on the SA10, but the DAC is different. The SA20 has a more expensive ESS Sabre 9308 reference DAC. It comes with the same remote control.
Arcam points out the SA20 has huge extra power reserves for the most demanding loudspeakers and says it’s an absolute must-have model for those seeking true excellence at a truly affordable price of £999.
Arcam's new HDA Integrated Amps and SACD/CD Player are expected to start shipping in Q3 of 2018.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
