Arlo and Samsung SmartThings Strengthen Partnership with AI-Driven Home Security

Arlo and Samsung SmartThings are bringing AI-powered features to smart home security, with object detection, two-way audio, and tighter ecosystem integration.
Smart home security brand Arlo has expanded its partnership with Samsung SmartThings, promising a more seamless and intelligent integration through a suite of AI-powered upgrades.
As two key players in the connected home space, SmartThings and Arlo bring complementary strengths to the table. Samsung’s SmartThings platform offers an open, cloud-based ecosystem that connects devices across mobile, TV, appliances, and third-party products, with global reach and full support for Matter. Arlo, meanwhile, is a leading name in smart security, known for its wire-free cameras, video doorbells, and AI-driven features delivered via the Arlo Secure platform. With a shared focus on simplicity, responsiveness, and user privacy, the two brands aim to deliver a more cohesive and intuitive smart home experience.
The latest update, set to roll out in the coming months, introduces several features from Arlo Secure 5 directly into the SmartThings platform. These include two-way audio for Arlo cameras and video doorbells, live event snapshots, and object detection powered by Arlo’s computer vision technology. SmartThings users will be able to identify people, vehicles, or packages in real time and tailor notifications or automations accordingly — bringing smarter, more context-aware alerts into the everyday experience.
Matthew McRae, CEO of Arlo Technologies, says the update reflects a shared commitment to improving the usability of smart homes:
With a shared spirit of innovation and commitment to delivering a seamless user experience, we're proud of our continued collaboration with the SmartThings team to make the smart home experience accessible for all.
The integration aims to streamline how users monitor and respond to activity around their homes. For SmartThings, the addition strengthens its role as a central hub for connected living, particularly as consumers increasingly seek proactive rather than reactive security solutions.
Mark Benson, Head of SmartThings US, also pointed to the added value this brings to Samsung’s ecosystem:
By expanding our partnership with Arlo, we are able to offer even more intelligent and responsive security features that seamlessly integrate into the SmartThings platform, helping users feel more connected and confident in their smart home.
The upgraded functionality forms part of Arlo Secure 5, which the company says represents the next generation of its cloud-based security system. Powered by computer vision and machine learning, the platform focuses on delivering faster, more meaningful alerts while reducing unnecessary noise — a common pain point in traditional motion detection systems.
Both companies continue to position themselves at the forefront of the connected home market, with Arlo bringing deep experience in wireless camera systems and AI-enhanced security. SmartThings offers one of the most widely integrated smart home platforms across mobile, TV, and appliances. The move also aligns with industry trends as platforms like Matter push toward more open, interoperable ecosystems.
The update is expected to be available in early April.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
