The A&norma SR25 (£649) is the brand's new entry-level digital audio player (DAP) and replaces the much-lauded A&norma SR15, first seen at High End Munich 2018.
The SR25 supports native playback of DSD256 and 32-bit/384KHz PCM high-resolution audio, thanks to its pair of Cirrus Logic 43198 MasterClass DACs running in dual-mono configuration, just like the SR15 did. However, the new DAP on the block boasts a faster Quad-core CPU and newly designed circuitry to improve sound quality. Also, the 3.6-inch HD screen is new and improved, says Astell&Kern.
Of course, all the expected codecs are welcomed, including FLAC, WAV, and MQA.
The SR25 is the first Astell&Kern player to offer LDAC with its v4.2 Bluetooth support, meaning that it can wirelessly stream 24-bit hi-res audio to compatible speakers and headphones. Additionally, the SR25 doubles the out-going model's stamina with its 20+ hours of continuous music playback. This also gives the player long-lasting bragging rights over all the other Astell&Kern players, too.
The SR25 sports a USB-C input port as well as a 3.5mm unbalanced, and 2.5mm, 4-pole balanced headphone out. You also get 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. Internal memory is 64GB, but that can be augmented via MicroSD card by an additional 1TB.
The Astell & Kern A&norma SR25 will be available in May 2020, priced £649. This obviously means that the SR15 is now available at the bargain price of £429, saving you a huge £170 on its usual RRP!
