AVID Reference Ruby

We heard it play at High End Munich 2019 and it sounded to be doing the business through the AVID rig, which is part of the company’s plan to be able to offer a full system from stylus to speaker. AVID has increased its electronics range, also on show in Munich, as well as producing some excellent turntables. The company also announced some new speakers at the show also.

As the name suggests, the Reference Ruby cartridge sports a cantilever made from solid ruby partnered with a micro-ridge diamond stylus.

The moving mass has been reduced with less coil windings to, "improve dynamics, but the output is a healthy 0.32mV due to the enlarged magnet assembly,” we are told.

Overall mass is 9.1g. The cartridge body has been designed and manufactured in-house by AVID.

Price and availability

The AVID Reference Ruby is available now for £6,000.
