BLUESOUND’S BLUOS DESKTOP APP UPDATED

One of the world’s leading multi-room high-res audio systems, Bluesound, has just announced the release of a new BluOS Controller for macOS and Windows.
This update is said to significantly improve the user experience with a high-resolution 4K interface, powerful new features and a seamless music experience across all devices.
The new BluOS Controller desktop app has been redesigned and refined with a fresh, modern look and features that streamline your music controls across your desktop and mobile devices. According to Bluesound, the aim of the redesign was to make your music experience “seamless and fluid.”
The new interface provides quick and easy access to the Navigation Drawer where you can browse your local music libraries, streaming music services, personalised playlists and more.
The Player Drawer has also been redesigned to prioritise the most important controls and multi-room grouping buttons. The simplified browse model also makes searching for albums, artists, and songs easier than ever before.
Andrew Haines, BluOS Product Manager, told StereoNET:
The new BluOS Controller is the future of the desktop experience with its incredible design and amazing new features, all engineered to mirror the mobile app that our customers love. Our goal is to always engineer our products, platforms, and applications together, so we are able to create a seamless user experience across all devices—no matter how you like to listen.
BluOS enabled wireless speakers can now be grouped together as left/right stereo pairs inside the app. You can also build Fixed Groups for specific rooms and surround sound configurations using multiple speakers and devices. Furthermore, audio settings can be adjusted and customised for each device with a simple click.
The updated search design makes browsing and finding music effortless with search results being auto-populated and displayed as you tap in your search term.
The new music share utility is baked right into the app and enables you to integrate music libraries stored on a computer or NAS drive.
Sharing large music collections with BluOS works like any other file sharing protocol. You can organise your music with folders and tags, drag them into the share utility, and browse your music library using the app. It also has built-in support for DSD playback.
For installers, a new and separate BluOS CI Utility app is also available for download alongside the desktop controller. The CI Utility app makes it simple for installers to seamlessly integrate BluOS enabled devices and map third-party control functions for leading smart home controllers like the Lutron Pico Remote for Audio and the iPort Surface Mount with Buttons.
All BluOS users are also urged to upgrade to the latest version of BluOS software, version 2.16, and download the latest apps for smartphone and tablet.
Windows and macOS users can download the new desktop app here.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
