Brinkmann Taurus Direct Drive Turntable

Brinkmann Audio's Taurus direct drive turntable is now shipping.
Launched at High End Munich 2019, the Brinkmann Audio Taurus turntable takes the company's sophisticated Direct Drive technology to the next level. Enough for the company to boast that it is "the finest direct drive turntable we know how to build."
The Taurus turntable has been designed to sport up to a pair of tonearms supported by the 40mm heavy-duty Duraluminum chassis which aims to keep resonance and vibrational distortions away from the tonearm support.
The Brinkmann Collar tonearm changing system enables the turntable to be compatible with 9-inch to 12-inch tonearms from just about any manufacturer - however, if you were planning to buy an SME model for it you had better get to the shops quick!
An additional cool feature is the wireless, machined aluminium disc 33 rpm and 45 rpm speed selector.
Powering the 10kg machined alloy platter, that also supports a crystal glass mat, is the company's proprietary magnetic field motor, featuring Brinkmann's 'Soft' speed control. The bearing is a lubricated precision hydrodynamic journal unit. We are also told that it's maintenance-free.
The Taurus is supplied with a bespoke 'Performance Power Supply'. Alternatively, you can opt for the RöNt vacuum tube power supply.
Connectivity is covered by way of RCA, XLR or feed-through keyway for tonearms with 5-pin DIN connectors. As well as the optional RöNt vacuum tube power supply, Brinkmann Audio is also offering a bespoke Granite Base and custom HRS Isolation Base as further upgrades. All in the Brinkmann Taurus weighs 22kg.
Price and availability
The Brinkmann Taurus is available now from €11990.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
