Campfire Orbit True Wireless Earphones are Company’s First

Campfire Audio's Orbit is the Oregon-based brand's first true wireless design and boasts almost 40 hours of play time.
Campfire Audio's Orbit shares its angular trademark styling with the American personal audio manufacturer's other earphones; however, this latest arrival comes without cables attached.
We are told that the Orbit sports specially developed 10mm dynamic drivers that benefit from a film diaphragm made of Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP). According to Campfire Audio, the result is extra clarity, space and energy, alongside plenty of depth and low-end punch with a claimed 5Hz-20KHz frequency range.
The Orbit supports AAC and aptX Adaptive codecs and 24-bit/48KHz thanks to having Bluetooth 5.2 onboard. But their capability to run for 8.5 hours on a single charge might win most fans. The Orbit's carrying case also supplies another thirty hours of play time. Then, when the time comes to re-juice, this can be done via USB-C or by setting the charging case on a Qi pad.
Not quite up to the Cambridge Melomania 1+'s 45 hours, but impressive enough to put the frighteners on the likes of Apple's AirPods Pro 2, which, to be fair, also have to power their active noise-cancelling tech.
Campfire Audio's angular design should help the Orbit stand out from the generally organically curvy competition. However, this is not simply an aesthetic choice as, according to the manufacturer, the two-tone housings are "shaped in a way that makes them extremely comfortable", with the stainless-steel nozzle and grille making them more robust.
The eye-catching design continues with the two-tone charging case with a bright green interior. The case also features a battery level indicator to quickly see how much play time is left.
Meanwhile, touch controls and a mic for hands-free calling are onboard with the companion app enabling you to customise the Orbit's touch control functionality. Additionally, you can also use the app to tweak the 7-band EQ and select from presets.
You can use the app to customise the on-bud controls and to pick your audio setting with the seven-band equaliser and presets. Future firmware updates to further enhance the user experience have been promised.
Campfire Audio's Orbit true wireless earbuds are available now from Amazon for £249.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
