CES 2019: HISENSE AUSTRALIA TO UNVEIL NEW SMART TV PLATFORM

It’s full throttle for major appliance and electronics brand Hisense Australia.

Within weeks, the company will launch its new locally developed Smart TV platform at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2019.

The latest version of the brand’s Smart TV operating system will be called VIDAA U3.0 A1, and it’s designed to make smart assistant integration an even better experience for Hisense TV owners.

The latest version of VIDAA offers full integration with Amazon Alexa, but it can also connect to Google Assistant using a Google Home device.

Switch on a Hisense telly loaded with the new VIDAA software, and you can access a new Smartsense hub onscreen that shows real-time weather data.

Also handy is the new Discover feature that highlights trending apps making your selection a quick, easy and informed choice.

Hisense says all of its 2019 models will have the new VIDAA software, but it’s unclear if it’s backwards compatible with older model TVs.

Only a decade ago we were sitting at a svelte restaurant within Melbourne’s trendy Southbank precinct talking to Croc Media CEO, Craig Hutchison, and his troops about a new TV brand called Hisense that his company had begun promoting.

Hutchison, a former colleague, had high hopes for the fledgling brand that Hisense was back then. But he was proven right by its meteoric success.

Fast-forward ten years, and who would have guessed that since its arrival here in 2006, Hisense would go on to be one of the country’s major appliance and TV brands?

This level of maturity ensures Hisense can develop its own technology without having its Chinese parent company holding its hand.

The new VIDAA software is a coup for Hisense Australia and one that’s pleasing to Andre Iannuzzi, Hisense Australia’s Marketing supremo.

He said:

Australia is a nation of early-adopters – we’re tech-savvy and are always looking for ways to improve connectivity in the home, especially in the living room,

With this in mind, innovation, performance and user experience continue to be key priorities for us as we move into 2019. Our new smart TV operating system, VIDAA U3.0 AI, and the continued development of the RemoteNOW smartphone App are a testament to this and will feature the latest advancements in AI technology, including integration with multiple leading smart assistant platforms,

Iannuzzi points out that along with enhanced connectivity, the new VIDAA operating system also offers faster boot times.

In other news, Hisense confirms it will offer Australian buyers a new Android TV line-up in 2019 which will also be unveiled at CES in January 2019.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
