Chord Company Epicx speaker cable officially launched

Chord Company's EpicX speaker cables are the latest from the British brand to benefit from XLPE technology.
Following our breaking news last week, we were at UK Hi-Fi Show Live 2019 (stay tuned for our full show report) and enjoyed a demonstration of the latest speaker cables from Chord Company.
The British cable company continues to roll-out its new XLPE- technology speaker cables, with the introduction of the new EpicX. As you may have already worked out, this new line replaces the original PTFE-based Epic.
The introduction of XLPE insulation presents an alternative to PTFE that also offers improved phase stability.
Chord Company has been investing in improved insulation materials which resulted in the introduction of the proprietary flagship dielectric, Taylon. This high-tech material is currently the preserve of the range-topping ChordMusic and Sarum T series. However, XLPE delivers the benefits of improved phase stability to a much broader range of products without the flagship price tag.
Chord Company EpicX Speaker Cable
The new EpicX remains a shielded design and is based on the company's multi-award-winning OdysseyX speaker cable. To that end, both cables share identical conductors: 12 AWG oxygen-free copper negative and positive conductors, which are silver plated and insulated with XLPE before an outer PVC jacket is applied.
The essential upgrade is EpicX's three additional layers of XLPE, which create a highly-effective high-frequency combination shield.
EpicX offers an audible improvement in performance; the upgrade to XLPE takes the enduring ten-year-old Epic design forward in the same exciting direction as the company's Taylon-equipped speaker cables.
EpicX is supplied with Chord Company's recently announced ChordOhmic plugs, neatly complemented by the new 'trousers'.
The new EpicX joins the January-announced (higher-performance) EpicXL speaker cable.
Price and availability
EpicX is available now priced at £60 per metre; factory termination (banana) add £120.
EpicX is available off-the-reel, factory-terminated or professionally terminated at Chord Company retailers (equipped with the new ChordOhmic Hex Gun) with ChordOhmic 4mm banana plugs or ChordOhmic spade connectors for a supplement.
Demonstration sets are available at most Chord Company retailers: chord.co.uk/dealers/

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
