Chord Company’s PhonoARAY Promises Instant Turntable Upgrade

PhonoARAY is Chord Company's high-performance earthing system upgrade for turntables and more.
PhonoARAY has been designed by British cable and power specialist Chord Company to perform as a high-performance earthing system for turntables and other sensitive audio devices.
We're told that PhonoARAY is an advanced standalone filtering solution that allows vinylistas to earth/ground their devices to the phono stage or the phono input on amplifiers, providing maximum protection for the highly sensitive signal.
The PhonoARAY benefits from a hand-wound, ultra-high-current series filter joining both terminals, plus a complex proprietary ARAY system, connected in parallel, creating a double 'virtual earth system' for both the turntable and phono stage. Chord Company states that this combination effectively shields sensitive signals from external interference, resulting in cleaner and more detailed sound reproduction.
Connectivity comes in the form of two high-quality 4 mm speaker-style terminals, accepting 4 mm banana and spade connections. The PhonoARAY then connects the earth terminal of the turntable (or tonearm) to the earth terminal of the phono stage (or amplifier phono input) using a dedicated high-quality 50 cm screened earth cable (4 mm connector to spade connector).
You can use PhonoARAY in various turntable configurations, including decks with or without built-in phono stages. A second PhonoARAY can also be added in systems with external phono stages, connecting the phono stage earth to the amplifier earth (as above).
The PhonoARAY benefits from a thick-walled enclosure machined from a solid aluminium billet, which provides excellent electrical and acoustic isolation. The resin-filled enclosure also reduces microphony, while lightweight, decoupled isolation feet minimise vibrations.
The Chord Company PhonoARAY is available now, priced at £1,000.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
