When Dali's Katch was launched back in 2016, it was one of those devices that we instantly fell in love with. It looked great and, more importantly, performed brilliantly for its size. In fact, our fearless leader, Marc Rushton, stated that "sound quality and battery life is class-leading at this price point" in his review of the original Katch.

However, five years is a couple of lifetimes in technology terms, and, save for some extra colours, Dali has seemed to have played a waiting game as the competition has been vies for the Katch's crown.
The Dali Katch G2 is finally here and boasts a raft of improvements such as a bigger battery, more comprehensive Bluetooth codec support and improved audio chops. But, thankfully, the much-loved design remains.

The Katch G2 supports aptX HD, aptX and AAC Bluetooth, complete with NFC, for higher quality transmission between compatible sources. However, you can still go old school and plug in a device via the 3.5mm input.

Additionally, you can now connect a pair of Katch speakers through TWS (True Wireless Stereo), which not only hands you more volume but also a stereo soundstage. This should further augment the Katch G2's already promising audio experience and make the most of its 49-23kHz claimed frequency range and 2x25 Watts RMS output.

Inside the compact case, you'll find a two-way stereo speaker system featuring a pair of 21mm soft textile dome tweeters, a couple of 3.5-inch cloth capped, aluminium cone woofers alongside two 73 x 52 mm steel coned low-frequency passive radiators in a closed cabinet. New for the Katch G2 is that the aluminium cabinet now has an internal wall dividing it into two inner volumes. This, we are told, gives the latest iteration improved channel separation.

The original Katch had bragging rights to 24-hours of battery stamina, which is still not to be sniffed at in 2021. That said, the G2 is apparently quite the party animal as Dali states that its battery is good for 30 hours. When it's spent, recharging is facilitated via its two-way USB port.

The Dali Katch G2 is available now, in Iron Black, Chilly Blue and Caramel White, priced at £329.
