Focal Diva Mezza Utopia Statement Wireless Loudspeakers

Focal's Diva Mezza Utopia boasts 500W per speaker and is luxuriously plug-and-play.

Focal has obviously found enough fans of the original Diva Utopia that it has announced the larger Focal Diva Mezza Utopia wireless floorstanding loudspeakers.

The new 3-way active Diva Mezza Utopia are packed with Naim electronics, resulting in 500W of amplification per speaker.

Standing 127cm tall and weighing 90kg, each tower features an IAL2 27mm inverted dome "M" profile beryllium tweeter at the end of a 90W Class AB amp, a 16.5cm W midrange driver pushed along by a 130W unit and four 20.5cm push-push woofers benefitting from 280W of Class AB. That's an increase of 100W per side on the Diva Utopia.

The larger cabinet volume (62 litres compared with the Diva Utopia's 50-litre volume) also makes a difference. We are told that the frequency response (+/- 3dB) is 25 Hz - 40 Hz, and the Diva Mezza Utopia has a maximum SPL of 120 dB at 1m. It is said to be suited for rooms up to 100 m² in size.

As with 'regular' wireless streaming stereo speakers, the Diva Mezza Utopia has a primary and secondary, with the former hosting most of the connectivity and the latter having the option of being paired using ultra-wideband wireless or a cable via RJ45 link.

Here, the Primary speaker features HDMI eARC/ CEC, TOSLINK optical, analogue RCA, USB 2.0 Type A and an Ethernet port.

That impressive ultra-wideband connectivity enables uncompressed, high-resolution signal transmission wirelessly at 96 kHz/24-bit, or you can opt for 192 kHz/24-bit using the wired speaker connection.

Still, most hi-fi lovers and aesthetes can do away with untidy cables, needing only a power lead for each tower, and still enjoy a lossless, pure hi-res audio experience.

The new Focals offer support for Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz Connect and more.

Like the Diva Utopia, the Diva Mezza Utopia features swappable side panels, enabling you to match the materials and finishes with your decor. At a recent preview event, we were treated to a set featuring ivory felt panels, but we were informed that wood laminate panels and additional options would also be available.

During that preview event, the Diva Mezza Utopia undoubtedly had the power to fill an ample space with a clear midrange, detailed treble, and impactful low end, with plenty of slam and articulation. However, it was the dynamics and scale that impressed us at the West London launch.

The Diva Mezza Utopia is available now at Focal Powered by Naim retailers, with a luxury audio price of £55,000 | €65,000 | US$69,000.
