Eliminating static from audio and AV media is something that Japanese cable and accessories experts Furutech know a thing or two about. Their new ASB-1 antistatic brush is an upgrade to their SK-III. Furthermore, it presents an easy-to-use, yet deceptively advanced gadget, that removes unwanted static charge from just about anything; naturally this includes CDs and vinyl.

Furutech ASB-1The SK-III proved to be a big hit and not only in audio and AV applications. Apparently, the Japanese Police Force crime scene investigators used it due to the brush's effectiveness in removing tiny dust particles and static interference.

Hopefully, you won't be needing it for fingerprinting a crime scene. However, Here, the best possible performance from our media is the primary concern. Unfortunately, that performance can be hindered by unwanted electrostatic charge.

Brush it off

Fortunately, there's the new ASB-1. Furutech's new static eliminating brush has been created for both audio and audio-visual applications. Its fibres feature a unique material, COREBRID B, developed by Mitsubishi. The core of the strands is formed from high-density, carbon-based, highly conductive particles. While conventional antistatic brushes attract the static charge to cling to the fibres' surface (where they can potentially be discharged back onto your media), the ASB-1 conducts static charge away through the core of the fibres for a more effective result. The static charge is trapped and forced to ground.

The surface of the COREBRID fibres is a sturdy, abrasion-resistant outer sheath which makes them extremely durable. The upshot is that you can use the ASB-1 time and again without wear or damage to the unique conductive core.

Pricing and availability

The Furutech ASB-1 antistatic brush is available now priced at £140 (including VAT).
