FYNE AUDIO’S SPECIAL PRODUCTION 502SP LOUDSPEAKER HEADS DOWNUNDER

Fyne Audio, the relatively new Scottish loudspeaker manufacturer attracting global acclaim has announced its F502SP and the first 'Special Production' designated loudspeaker design.

As with all Fyne Audio speakers, the SP models are designed and manufactured in Scotland. However, the Special Production models distil the very best components and engineering from across the Fyne Audio range into a unique loudspeaker. Furthermore, they are personally tuned by Technical Director, Dr Paul Mills.

Fyne Audio F502SP Design

Fyne Audio F502SP

The F502SP brings much of the driver, crossover and bass tuning expertise from the F700 series into the more compact and affordable F500 series cabinet design. The result is a unique limited production run loudspeaker.

Building on the award-winning F502, the SP uses a 200mm (8-inch) IsoFlare driver and 200mm (8-inch) bass/mid driver derived from the F702. This high-tech unit features a rigid multi-fibre cone with FyneFlute roll surround and the F702's 25mm magnesium diaphragm compression tweeter with unique HF waveguide.

Fyne Audio states that the result is an incredibly even, full-range frequency response with true point source isotropic radiation for outstanding musical imaging.

Further improving the standard F502's BassTrax porting system, the F502SP benefits from the full aluminium sandwich plinth Tractrix profile bass diffuser developed for the premium F1 series. Re-engineered to precisely tune the F502SP cabinet, the plinth provides unrivalled solidity and easy levelling. Also, this allows the BassTrax diffuser to create a true 360 degree LF wavefront for unsurpassed bass integration in any room.

Fyne Audio F502SP

Naturally, merging the F702 tech into the F502 cabinet demanded an exclusive crossover. Many of the component choices from the F700 series have been used in tuning the F502 SP to deliver a loudspeaker of outstanding performance and unrivalled value.

Unique Touches for a Unique Speaker

To celebrate this unique UK built loudspeaker, a new finish option and unique driver trim set the F502SP apart from Fyne's standard F502. The SP is available in high gloss black and high gloss white as standard, or in a new, luxurious deep gloss lacquered walnut veneer previously seen on the premium F700 series.

All F502SP finishes feature a diamond-cut finish on an exposed aluminium driver chassis.

Price and availability

The Fyne Audio F502SP will be available in mid-September and will sell with three colour/finish options - Piano Gloss Black / Piano Gloss White ($8,495 RRP), Piano Gloss Walnut ($9,495 RRP).

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
