Genelec to Debut Piano Black 8381 Loudspeakers at HIGH END Munich

Genelec has confirmed its return to HIGH END Munich this year, where it will showcase a range of active loudspeakers, including a new Piano Black edition of its flagship 8381 Adaptive Point Source™ floorstanders.
First launched in 2023 during the company’s 45th anniversary celebrations, the 8381 system blends professional-grade studio performance with the design and adaptability sought in high-end domestic listening spaces.
Tomi Hassinen, Genelec’s Home Audio Business Manager, commented:
HIGH END Munich has always been a fantastic opportunity for us to connect directly with the audiophile community, and we’re particularly excited to be able to showcase the ground-breaking excellence of the 8381 this year.
Making its global debut at the show, the new 8381 variant sports a premium Piano Black finish and is accompanied by an engraved, floor-mountable power amplifier. The Finnish brand says the update enhances the model’s aesthetic appeal without compromising its acoustic integrity. With nearly 6 kW of amplification and an impressive maximum SPL of 126 dB, the 8381 offers concert-grade dynamics, with enough headroom to reproduce even the most demanding material with ease and authority.
Genelec claims this is the highest figure achieved by a precision point source acoustic design. It pairs that power with an ultra-wide frequency response from 20 Hz to 35 kHz and pinpoint high-resolution imaging.
At its core lies Genelec’s Minimum Diffraction Coaxial (MDC™) driver, delivering what the company claims is outstanding clarity, directional control and spatial accuracy. This is complemented by four additional 5-inch domes forming a coaxial midrange array and a forward-facing 15-inch woofer. Two additional 15-inch woofers handle extended low frequencies, with adaptive LF technology allowing the system to calibrate its response in real-time for smoother in-room performance, minimising acoustic notching and room-based resonances.
Genelec’s 8341 and 8361 models from ‘The Ones’ range will also be on demo at the event. These compact three-way coaxial speakers have built a strong reputation among audiophiles for their imaging accuracy and uniform dispersion. They now come in over 120 custom RAL colour options to better integrate with home interiors. Genelec will also show its 6040 system and models from the G and F Series, reinforcing its commitment to a full-spectrum high-end home offering.
Genelec will exhibit at HIGH END Munich from May 15th to 18th at Atrium 4.2, Room F207. The StereoNET team will be on the ground at the show, We look forward to seeing the 8381 system in person.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
