HEDD Audio Announces HEDDPhone Two

With a new personalised strap adjustment system, new materials and a new Air Motion Transformer (AMT) driver, the newly announced HEDDPhone Two from Heinz Electrodynamic Designs (HEDD Audio) is looking to be a big upgrade over its predecessor.
Hand-built in Germany, the new headphones look quite different from the outside, with carbon fibre and magnesium being used to reduce the weight of the headphones by a whopping 25% down to 550 grams. More than that, HEDD Audio has introduced a unique strap adjustment system to the headband called HEDDband that allows for customisation of the headband’s height, width, curvature and even clamping pressure.
There are two sets of straps, the Shape strap and the Tension strap, with the Shape strap in charge of raising or lowering the earpads to find the optimal fit while the Tension strap adjusts the clamping force and the width between the earcups.
The HEDDPhone Two uses a AMT driver with Variable Velocity Transform (VVT) technology and a Kapton polyimide film diaphragm that’s folded into pleats like an accordion, which squeezes out air from the folds, allowing air to accelerate towards the ear quicker than it would with a beryllium or diamond dynamic driver.
That same pleated design means the driver’s surface area is up to three times larger than the drivers in contemporary dynamic, planar or electrostatic headphones. HEDD Audio claims that this produces a “speaker-like, evenly balanced soundstage with stunning definition, permitting long listening periods with very little fatigue.”
The headphones come with plenty of accessories as well, including a travel case, spare earpads and two cables, a 6.3mm unbalanced cable and a 4.4mm balanced cable, along with an unbalanced 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter and a balanced 4.4mm to XLR adapter.
Perhaps what’s most intriguing is the five-year warranty that HEDD Audio offers with these headphones, showing the company’s confidence in the quality of the HEDDPhone Two.
Priced at €1999 | S$3,199, the HEDD Audio HEDDPhone Two is now available for pre-orders, with availability slated for late September in North America and mid to late October globally.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
