IFI AUDIO XCAN FULL DETAILS AND UK PRICE

We first heard about it at the Munich High-End show, but iFi Audio's xCAN has now been officially launched.
Tear up the rulebook because music has leapt into the future with the iFi xCAN.
Bold words indeed from the Southport-based digital audio lover. The xCAN certainly looks capable. In fact, it replaces two previous iFi products; namely the iCAN SE and nano iCAN.
Matching the aesthetics of the impressive iFi xDSD that we reviewed and handed our very first StereoNET Applause Award to recently, the £299 xCAN measures just 95 x 66.5 x 19mm and so is bound to be portably pocketable.
At home or on the go, the brand's latest headphone amplifier delivers 1000mW of power per channel and dual mono amplifiers. That will give your digital audio player (DAP) a healthy boost and your headphones, irrespective whether they're 16 or 600 Ohm, a good kick in the pants. Also, there's the bonus of up to 8 hours of battery life.
On the face of the device, you'll find both a balanced 2.5mm output and a 3.5 headphone port; the latter runs iFi's S-Balanced technology meaning that the xCAN is compatible with all single and balanced headphones and IEMs.
Furthermore, the xCAN boasts high-quality Bluetooth connectivity supporting both aptX and AAC. The device's wireless skills mean that you can stream from your smart device or TV via Bluetooth to the xCAN and enjoy your favourite headphones. Additionally, the xCAN can store up to eight wireless devices at once. Wireless streaming to the portable amp plays nice with iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal.
Also on-board, are the expected iFi tech such as X-Bass II which cleans up and restores a richer sound, and 3D+ that recreates a live stage atmosphere. Finally, notice that the xCAN rocks a USB-C port.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
