IKEA is generally only mentioned on Hi-Fi forums in terms of record storage and hacked hi-fi racks. However, the flatpack giant is no stranger to integrating smart tech into its products. The latest development is a smart speaker range built in collaboration with Sonos.

We got wind of the IKEA and Sonos partnership back in 2017. Word followed that they were working on a wall-mounted smart speaker dubbed SYMFONISK.

Now we have more information and, moreover, confirmation of the launch date.

IKEA has confirmed that the Sonos collaboration will be officially launched on April 9th at the Feel Home exhibition in Milan.

IKEA has told us that the Italian show will present

the first products in the SYMFONISK range.

Furthermore, an earlier teaser video shows the on-wall speaker along with a smart bookshelf speaker. Naturally, the speakers promise to wear an "affordable" price tag. We have heard that Danish IKEA staff have been offered a voucher for a free speaker in celebration of the company's 50th birthday. The coupon is said to be worth DKK799, roughly £93. This amount could indicate the entry-level speaker's price point.

The latest video shows the speakers in situ but frustratingly blurs the boxes, meaning we can't actually see what the speakers look like.

Fret not, we don't have long to wait.
