JBL 4305P Powered Prosumer Studio Monitors Pack Streaming Smarts
JBL unveils its 4305P, the first active speaker in the Studio Monitor range that also offers wired and wireless options.
JBL has kept with the retro styling for its 4305P Studio Monitors, but the bookshelf-sized newcomers launched at CES 2022 are very much designed for the 21st century.
The JBL 4305P boasts Class D amplification, a 24-bit/192kHz high-resolution DAC, along with an Ethernet port while offering a more compact design than the 4309.
Naturally, you still have the option to cable-connect these compact studio monitors thanks to half-a-dozen inputs covering digital and analogue sources, including asynchronous USB, optical digital and 3.5mm inputs, as well as the standard speaker wiring posts.
Additionally, as a nod to the 4305P's prosumer capabilities, it also sports a combination XLR / 1⁄4-inch TRS phono connector and a selectable input sensitivity switch to handle balanced or unbalanced signals. Definitely a bonus for home studios and content creators such as podcasters/ live streamers.
The 4350P pairs a 2410H-2 1-inch compression driver with a High-Definition Imaging horn alongside a 5.25-inch, fibre-composite cone woofer teamed with dual front-firing bass ports within a 3⁄4-inch MDF cabinet with internal bracing. The onboard Class D amplifiers push out 25W to each compression driver and 125W to each woofer, adding up to 300Wrms total system power built-in, states JBL.
To ensure that the speakers remain true, no matter your room, the JBL 4305P includes a selectable bass contour control. Furthermore, there's also a line-level subwoofer output if you want to add some extra bass performance.
As well as Bluetooth (we're assuming 5.2), you get Google Chromecast Built-in, Apple AirPlay 2, Roon Ready certification, and MQA rendering. The wireless connection between the speakers can support hi-res up to 96kHz. However, connect the supplied Digital Link cable, and you can enjoy full-fat hi-res at 192kHz.
The JBL 4305P come with a free 90-day trial of Qobuz and are available in either natural walnut with a blue grille or black walnut with a black grille. They're slated to land in the first quarter of 2022 for £2,200/ €2,200.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
