JBL L52 Classic Bookshelf Speakers Launched
JBL has announced the smallest member of its Classic Series, the L52 Classic.
JBL's L52 Classic looks like a shrunken version of the iconic and Applause Award-winning JBL L100 thanks to its walnut wood veneer enclosure and Quadrex foam grille, which, incidentally, is available in a choice of black, blue, or orange.
The L52 Classic was actually modelled as a scaled-down version of the L82 Classic, with the 330.2mm x 196.6mm x 216.2mm (HxWxD) L52 Classic sporting a two-way design utilising a 0.75-inch titanium dome tweeter mated to an acoustic lens waveguide and a 5.25-inch white cone, cast-frame woofer. The result is a claimed sensitivity of 85 dB/2.83Vm and 47 Hz–24 kHz (-6 dB) frequency response.
We are informed there is also a premium crossover network design (@ 2.8 kHz) that ensures optimum system performance. Meanwhile, the front panel HF level attenuator allows you to tailor the sound to personal preference and your listening room.
As this is a bookshelf speaker, the L52 Classic employs a front-firing tuned bass-reflex port. Additionally, the L52 Classic can be wall-mounted thanks to a pair of threaded inserts on the rear panel for use with third-party brackets.
The JBL L52 Classic is packed and sold in mirror-imaged pairs and will be available at the beginning of Q4, 2021 (in time to make it on your Christmas list) with a retail price of £1,000 per pair.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
