Kimber Carbon PHONO Tone Arm Cable Available

Kimber Kable's Carbon Phono tone arm cable promises the sonic performance of its Carbon series for vinylistas while enabling a complete chain from source to pre-amp to power amp and to speakers.

Kimber's Carbon Phono's design follows the same construction of the company's Carbon interconnects and speaker cables, where eight VariStrand 19.5AWG conductors are braided together using Kimber's counter-opposed weave. Additionally, we're told that each copper conductor within the VariStrand is covered with an electrostatically dissipative carbon polymer that's said to fill the gaps between each strand and the outer Teflon dielectric.

Apparently, this construction is designed to reduce mechanically induced electrical noise in the cable whilst improving the uniformity of the voltage gradient within the insulating dielectric.

The cable is further wrapped in a carbon-doped nylon sleeve, which is, in turn, in constant contact with a hand-wrapped tin-plated 23AWG copper shield wire around the eight-wire braided core. Kimber states that the wire extends to the leads for complete shielding coverage, and a ground wire is bonded to the shield and the carbon sleeve to ensure an effective and robust connection. Finally, an outer PET Techflex sleeve provides physical protection for the cable.

Kimber developed a new braiding machine for the Carbon series that preserves the weave at the point where the braid splits in two, maintaining the weave without a break at the junction. The result, says the manufacturer, preserves maximum RFI rejection.

The Kimber Carbon PHONO cable is available in0.5m, 0.75m, 1.0m, 1.5m, and 2.0m lengths with 1.0m lengths priced at £976 for the Carbon Phono-CU with WBT 0114Cu phono plugs and straight DIN or £1,060 for the Carbon Phono-CU with WBT 0114Cu phono plugs both ends.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
