Krix Announces MX-5 and MX-10 Modular Cinema Screen Speakers

Krix, the kings of cinema speakers disrupted and revolutionised the home cinema market in 2015 with the release of their modular MX speaker systems.

Designed to be installed behind acoustically transparent screens, the MX system replicated the sound performance of commercial cinemas in a residential application.

Dubbed 'the wall of sound' by many, Krix's MX-20 and larger MX-30 have become a benchmark and now specified by leading home cinema designers.

Krix have this week announced two new additions to the MX range in the form of the MX-5 and MX-10 modular screen speaker systems.

As you might guess from the model numbers, these two are designed for smaller rooms (and screens). Krix suggests the MX-5 will deliver optimal performance in smaller rooms of 15sqm to 25sqm, while the MX-10 is aimed at mid-size rooms of 25sqm to 35sqm.

Krix has further refined the cabinets of the new models with the MX-5 depth only 190mm, and MX-10 depth at 205mm. Both models have been designed with serviceability in mind, using passive subwoofers, so there's no need for access behind the screen.

The minimum screen size for the MX-5 system is 92-inch (16:9 - 2037x1146mm) or 90-inch (21:9 scope - 2101x900mm). Minimum screen size for the MX-10 is 92-inch (16:9 - 2037 x 1146mm) or 100-inch (21:9 scope - 2335 x 1001mm).

The MX-5 and MX-10 speakers will be available in November and will sell for $7,995 RRP and $9,995 RRP respectively.

Just add your Atmos and Surround speakers, which Krix also offers, and you'll have reference levels of immersive cinema sound, in the convenience of your home.

StereoNET was lucky enough to review the MX-5 modular speaker system over the last week. Stay tuned for the full review shortly.

Krix will show the MX-5 modular screen speakers for the very first time at the 2019 StereoNET Melbourne Hi-Fi Show, in Room 1312 in conjunction with Selby Acoustics. October 18-20, tickets are on sale now.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
