L-Acoustics Creations Contour XO IEMs Released

L-Acoustics Creations, part of the French company who makes the sound so great at Coachella, The Hammersmith Apollo, and the Hollywood Bowl, has launched some in-ear monitors.

L-Acoustics Creations' Dr Christian Heil and JH Audio's Jerry Harvey have collaborated to produce a pair of in-ear monitors that boasts ten drivers.

We are told that the Countour XO IEMs brings together the French firm's live music expertise and Harvey's pro-audio multi-driver monitor know-how to produce a "pocket-size reference earphone for rock stars, sound professionals and serious music lovers alike."

The result of Harvey and Heil's first partnership, the Contour XO, offers control of the low end with bass adjustment of up to 15 dB above flat response. We are also promised marvellous detail and clarity of the sounds transmitted by the limited-edition premium in-ear audio solution.

The ten balanced armature driver-powered IEM has a quoted frequency range of 10 Hz–20 kHz along with a 116 dB sensitivity.

Jerry Harvey told StereoNET:

I’ve been trying to make my in-ears sound like an L-Acoustics PA for years,” “It wasn’t until their team challenged us that we got as close as we could. The L-Acoustics R&D team has been great to work with!

Dr. Christian Heil added:

I was impressed by the jeweller-like precision with which JH Audio could tune to match our frequency contour in such a miniaturised enclosure. There’s a very generous, deep low-end contour and a high-end extension that I’ve never heard on an IEM before. The sound is natural and powerful.

The Contour XO are handmade in the USA by JH Audio and are available now exclusively from L-Acoustics, priced at €1350 and €1690 (plus tax) for universal or custom fit respectively.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
