Linn Series 3 Wireless Speaker Launched

Linn launched its Series 3 wireless speaker last night at the Knightsbridge corner shop better known as Harrods.
The Glasgow-based high-end audio specialist unveiled its Series 3 speaker and we were amongst a small group of journalists present at the special event.
This all-in-one, wireless speaker is quite a departure for Linn but they obviously recognise the growing number of non-traditionalists who are looking for high-performance audio.
Series 3 is Linn's first product with plug and play setup and doesn't require specialist installation. You can take it home, plug it in and start listening immediately.
Launched in their brand-new flagship showroom in Harrods, Series 3 seemed well-suited to its surroundings in the exclusive department store.
Furthermore, the Series 3's elegant lines and ceramic finish promises to fit seamlessly into any home.
In addition to its looks, the Series 3 also boasts "the outstanding audio performance that Linn is famous for" with the Scottish brand not being shy in claiming that it is "the world's best-sounding wireless speaker."
Gilad Tiefenbrun, Linn Managing Director, told StereoNET:
Series 3 is the culmination of nearly 50 years of audio innovation and Scottish precision engineering, driven by our unwavering passion for music. Offering high-performance audio quality combined with the convenience of wireless, Series 3 will change expectations of what wireless speakers are capable of. Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, your own music collection… wherever your music comes from, Series 3 will make you fall in love with it all over again.
The Series 3's flowing curves, along with the natural materials selected for their audio properties used in its construction, ensure that the speaker is a feast for the ears as well as the eyes.
Using Linn's patented Exakt technology, first developed for its flagship Klimax System, Series 3 ensures music arrives at your ears perfectly timed, enabling you to enjoy the same natural sound as recorded by the artist.
Every Series 3 is hand-built at the Linn factory in Scotland and certainly looked like a premium offering from the Glasgow-based brand.
Naturally, you can control the new speaker via a smart device. Additionally, you can use the six smart buttons on the glass top of the speaker that are illuminated by 100 individual LEDs.
The cut-glass panel features shortcuts where you can "pin" up to six favourites, be it a single song, an album, a radio station, or a service.
Also, there is the option to control it using voice commands when connected to a voice assistant such as Alexa or Siri.
Finally, there is Linn's control app for browsing and discovering new music through high-resolution streaming services such as Tidal and Qobuz, as well as support for Apple AirPlay, Spotify, Roon, Bluetooth and 24-bit high-resolution audio.
Interestingly, the Linn Series 3 is also packing HDMI ARC for those choosing to improve the sound of their TV. Get a second Series 3 in the 'System' package, and this hooks up to the 'master' speaker by Exakt Link to provide a rather sexy-looking stereo set up to flank your big-screen telly.
In the Linn demo rooms, the Series 3 did sound rather good. We were particularly drawn to the gold grille variant that is launched as a Harrods exclusive.
Price and availability
The Linn Series 3 is priced at £2,950 for one and £5,450 for the two-speaker stereo system.
Launching with a ''Harrods Exclusive' gold grille, Series 3 is also available with a chrome grille in-store.
Series 3 will be available through the Linn network of specialist retailers from 2020.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
