Lumin P1 Networked Player/ Preamp Lands in UK

The P1 is said to be precision-engineered to deliver an elite level of signal processing and versatility, and we're told it is Lumin's most versatile design to date.

Under the hood of Lumin's P1, you will find a dual-mono design from input to output. Hardware features dual Femto re-clocking oscillators, dual ES9028PRO SABRE DACs, 32-bit precision volume control with LEEDH processing and a fully-balanced analogue output stage as used by the flagship Lumin X1. Additionally, power comes by way of a new dual-toroidal linear power supply.

Adding to the P1's versatility is nine digital/analogue inputs with the XMOS USB input supporting native DSD512 and PCM384, while TOSLINK, SPDIF (RCA) and AES inputs support up to 192kHz 24bit data. In addition, three HDMI 2.0 inputs support 2.0 PCM audio decoding and the passthrough of HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, DTS via an ARC compatible HDMI output. Meanwhile, balanced XLR and co-axial RCA input/outputs handle pure analogue signals.

Furthermore, PCM and DSD up-sampling is available for any digital input, while a dual-network interface manages switching between the P1's Ethernet and SFP fibre ports, promising complete isolation from network noise.

The P1's zinc and acrylic Roon Ready remote control is also precision-made in Austria. This hands you control over playback and settings, input selection, per-input volume memory and custom input labels. Lumin's app also features the same should your mobile device be nearer.

The Lumin P1 is available in natural or black anodised aluminium with an RRP of £8,495.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
