Lyngdorf Audio Introduces TDAI-1120 Streaming Amplifier

Lyngdorf Audio has officially launched its newest and most compact amplifier, the TDAI-1120.
Lyngdorf's TDAI-1120 (£1,995) is an integrated amplifier that also boasts streaming smarts and HDMI connectivity, all in a compact and bank account-friendly package. However, even though this is the most affordable amplifier from the Danish digital audio maestro, the TDAI-1120 is still designed and assembled at home, in the company's factory in Skive, Denmark.
Firstly, for those who don't know what TDA stands for, it's Lyngdorf's True Digital Amplification technology. It means that the signal processing is totally handled in the digital domain. In fact, it might be easier to describe the Lyngdorf TDAI range as digital-to-analogue converters with sufficient power (current and voltage) to drive speakers directly (2x120 W RMS @ 4 ohms or 2x60 W RMS @ 8 ohms).
We're told that this method eliminates hundreds of active and passive components that are a significant source of noise and distortion. According to Lyngdorf, frequency response: ±0,5dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with total harmonic distortion quoted at 0.05% max.
Lyngdorf's TDAI-1120 is equipped with 2 x Coaxial (≤192kHz/24bit) 2 x Optical (≤96 kHz/24bit) 1 x HDMI (TV ARC) for its asynchronous digital input side, along with two sets of RCA, one to a phono stage (RIAA / 47kOhm 100pF), and an XLR microphone input for RoomPerfect calibration taking care of analogue ins. There is also a stereo RCA output.
The TDAI-1120 has bragging rights to advanced media player chops and ticks off Spotify, Airplay 2, Roon, Chromecast, vTuner net radio, as well as being able to playback music stored on your local network. As with any such player these days, control is provided via an app. Additionally, Control4 Drivers can be had for home automation and custom install jobs with optional rack-mounting kits also available. You might have noticed that no clumsy aerials are poking up from the classy case to grab Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. That's because they've been neatly packed inside.
Anker Haldan, CCO of Lyngdorf Audio told StereoNET:
This stunning, flexible new amplifier is compact and yet extremely powerful. When connected to the TV in the living room, a completely new audio experience will engage the user. The iOS and Android remote app allow for intuitive switching among the most popular streaming services. The TDAI-1120 with RoomPerfect makes any speaker brand sound the way it was intended with no room influence.
The attractive 10.1x30x26 cm package combines a preamplifier, all-digital power amplification, crossover network, streamer and, crucially, Lyngdorf's proprietary RoomPerfect calibration system. The latter doesn't require a computer or specialist knowledge, just the bundled microphone that also comes with a stand.
The Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 is available now with a price tag of £1,995.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
