The C100 replaces Melco's debut Ethernet cable, the C1AE, and introduces several noise-reducing upgrades designed to improve networked audio sound quality, so says the highly-rated Japanese-based firm.
The C100 is a wide bandwidth design rated at 600 MHz, 6x the speed of CAT 5e and 2.4x that of CAT 6 and benefits from asymmetric drain wire grounding, where one end features a ground point. The idea is that unwanted noise, either external or from connected devices, travels in one direction to the ground end - as indicated on the connector plug by the Melco logo - instead of interfering with signal transmission.
Meanwhile, the non-grounded end of the cable features a 'floating' shield, which is not attached to the connector plug. According to Melco, this prevents unwanted noise from transferring to connected audio devices downstream.
The specs are rounded off by gold-plated connectors, a smooth cable outer to avoid tangling, and a double shield for additional protection. Finally, Melco states that the C100's conductor thickness has been improved over its predecessor.
The Melco C100 is available now priced from £125/ €149 (1 m) and comes in 1 m, 2 m, 3 m, 5 m and 10 m lengths.
