Meze 105 Silva Headphones Revealed Alongside Ultra Cable

Meze's 105 Silva open-backed headphones will premiere at High End Munich 2025.

Meze's latest wired open-back headphones, the 105 Silva, have been unveiled ahead of its Munich debut by the Romanian audio brand next week.

Continuing the line of last year's 105 AER, the 105 Silva promises a "rich, broad and warm soundstage" from its set of 50mm dynamic drivers that feature a cellulose composite dome and a titanium-covered surround. Meze says this results in a "crisp, engaging and detailed audio experience" throughout its claimed 5 Hz-30 kHz frequency range.

We are told the drivers in Meze Audio's 105 Silva benefit from a titanium-coated torus and a copper-zinc stabiliser to further augment the driver membrane's rigidity and strength, which should present a faster transient response and "pleasantly textured bass with minimal distortion".

Silva's "Mid-Century Modern" aesthetic sees walnut earcups reinforced with a high-strength polymer (PC-ABS) to combine "vintage charm and contemporary aesthetics". As with previous Meze Audio headphones, Silva can be disassembled, and worn or damaged parts can be replaced so your headphones can stay with you for many years of listening.

Meze says that its new 105 Silva headphones combine the technicalities of the Applause Award-winning 109 PRO (£769 / $799 / €799), which we said was "a strong product at the price," with the warmth and versatility of its 105 AER predecessor (£359 / $399 / €399) and underlines Silva's mid-band presentation said to excel with vocals and strings. Sensitivity is listed as 112 dB SPL at 1 KHz, 1 mW, along with a 42Ω impedance rating.

MEZE ULTRA CABLE

Joining the Meze Audio Silva headphones, the company will also take its new Ultra Cable to Munich.

This high-performance headphone cable boasts an innovative Y-splitter design that allows for a continuous 16-to-8-wire braid without soldering, so says the brand.

With conductors made of 99.9% pure silver — the metal with the highest electrical conductivity — we are told that Ultra allows for "faster signal transmission with minimal resistance."

Each individual cable is made of 40 conductors with a 0.08mm diameter, which Meze says produces an "incredible response and signal processing time."

Featuring dual 4-pin mini-XLR connectors, Ultra is a premium cable designed to be paired with Meze Audio's Elite and Empyrean II ranges. The Meze Ultra Cable is supplied with 3.5mm, 4.4mm, 6.3mm and 4-Pin XLR connections, ensuring wide-ranging compatibility and is available in 1.2 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 m custom lengths.

Meze Audio will present the 105 Silva headphones and Ultra Cable at this year's High End Munich show in Hall 1, Atrium 7, booth B02.

Pricing will become available nearer the new products' release date later this year.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
