Monitor Audio Vestra Subwoofer Series Adds Value & Choice

Monitor Audio's new Vestra subwoofer range brings three new options whilst boasting both performance and value.
The Vestra subwoofer series offers three new models - the W10, W12 and W15 - ideally suited to entry and mid-positioned speaker series, whether "used traditionally or deployed within custom installation applications", says Monitor Audio.
Engineered and developed alongside Monitor Audio's premium Anthra Series Subwoofers, each of the three Vestra Subwoofers includes an acoustic package that enables "Monitor Audio to deliver on its Transparent Design Philosophy" that aims to harmoniously combine superior design elements, intuitive user experience and advanced acoustic engineering.
Starting with Monitor Audio's signature C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium) high-linear excursion drivers, which we're told result in a more fatigue-resistant, stronger and lighter cone, alongside offering far greater pistonic movement under extreme stresses, over standard aluminium cones.
In the Vestra, these are paired with powerful new motor systems featuring triple suspension in the W12 and W15 for greater control and precision under extremely low frequencies. According to the manufacturer, they also benefit from uprated venting for improved airflow and larger, round-wound voice coils made of high-purity copper wire that delivers the highest possible BI (field strength). We're told that FEA optimisation of the steel components also helps linearise the Bl curve - this results in improved consistency of the magnetic field through the gap, which reduces distortion. Furthermore, the C-CAM bass driver surround has been optimised to allow the largest cone surface possible. The company says this controls the excursion without overstretching, causing distortion, or breaking.
Pushing the C-CAM drivers along is a Class-D 250-Watt amplifier in the Vestra W10, whilst a 500-Watt Class-D amplifier powers the Vestra W12 and W15. Monitor Audio underlines that these have been configured to match the drive unit and speaker system. The same goes for the power supplies.
The amplifier also offers a range of connectivity options, such as unbalanced Stereo RCA, LFE unbalanced RCA inputs, useful DSP pre-set configuration modes for in-room position optimisation and a 12-volt trigger.
The cabinets of the Vestra subwoofers are constructed from rigid, reinforced, and braced 15mm thick MDF and are finished in contemporary black or white vinyl with painted matte, 21mm thick front baffles. The cabinets are designed to mitigate unwanted resonance, "delivering pure, undistorted bass that resonates deeply." The W10 and W12 models benefit from a fully sealed enclosure, which is ideal for placement versatility, whilst the larger W15 utilises a ported design extending low-frequency extension further for maximum bass slam.
Monitor Audio states that it's new that Vestra subwoofers will deliver exceptional bass responses with swiftness, dexterity, total control, and total power, which delivers musicality and depth.
The Monitor Audio Vestra Series is available in matte white and matte black with the following recommended retail pricing per unit:
- Vestra W10: £600 | US$800 | €750 | A$1,199
- Vestra W12: £750 | US$1,000 | €900 | A$1,499
- Vestra W15: £900 | US$1,200 | €1,150 | A$1,849

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
