NAD M23 Hybrid Digital Stereo Power Amp Launched

NAD Electronics M23 Hybrid Digital stereo amplifier promises to deliver state-of-the-art engineering at an affordable price.

NAD's M23 is powered by the same Purifi Eigentakt Class-D amplification technology first introduced in the company's upper tier M33 BluOS Streaming Amplifier. Therefore, this unit features what NAD describes as a "once-in-a-decade amplification innovation" that all-but-eliminates distortion and promises extraordinarily low noise.

So, NAD is pretty confident, then? Looking at the spec sheet, the M23 does have plenty going for it. Firstly, boasting "a minimum of 200W per channel" of continuous power into 8 ohms and "amazing reserves of dynamic power at lower impedances". Additionally, we see that two M23 amplifiers can be paired together as mono amps with an option to combine the M23 with the M33 for 700W per channel (in bridged mode).

Around the back of the M23, you'll find RCA and XLR balanced inputs, a switch for bridge mode, three selectable gain levels, and a 12v trigger.

All of that is wrapped up in attractive all-alloy casework that's as practical as it is good-looking, with the rigid panels and magnetic iso-point feet providing a solid foundation for the multi-layer circuit boards and intricate internal construction.

The NAD M23 Hybrid Digital power amp is expected later this month and will sell £2,999/ €3499

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
