New Brand Theory Audio Design Launches

"We are the next wave" - that's the catchcry of the loudspeaker and electronics manufacturer startup based in Orange County, California, who are now shipping their products worldwide.

The product range was initially conceived to address the sound problem from TVs that have continued to get thinner. Theory Audio Design says it "marries startling acoustic performance with sophisticated contemporary design to bring large-scale sound to residential and commercial installations where aesthetics and compact size are paramount."

Its first seven products are now shipping which includes three high output soundbars, the sb65 ($4,499), sb75 ($4,899), and sb85 ($5,299), designed to perfectly match with 65-inch, 75-inch and 85-inch flat-panel TVs. Also available is the sb25 ($1,899) multi-purpose on-wall loudspeaker, and the sub12 ($3,499) and sub15 ($4,299) passive subwoofer models with 12-inch and 15-inch drivers respectively.

At the heart of the system is Theory Audio Design's stylish and compact ALC-1809 ($5,999), which is a  9-channel amplified loudspeaker controller. It features 8 balanced analog audio inputs, 1 mic/line level input (software selectable), 96kHz/32-bit DSP processing including full signal routing, gain adjustment, 8x8 matrix bass-management, 8x8 matrix mixing, 80 parametric EQ's, along with compatibility with Amazon Alexa and other voice assistants.

Paul Hales, Theory Audio Design's Founder, told StereoNET:

Theory is unique in that it marries professional audio componentry and performance with contemporary design for high-end residential and commercial environments. The performance of Theory products is genuinely startling, which is why the brand has received so much positive press from the initial product previews alone. We are ecstatic to now be shipping the first seven products.

Theory Audio Design is represented in Australia by Cogworks. Paul Clarke, General Manager, added:

We're incredibly excited to bring this new brand and its amazing products to Australia. Stock is due in February, and we will be creating a range of complete cinema package solutions soon.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
