Nothing Headphone (a) Adds Plenty of Colour & Stamina

Building on last year’s Headphone (1), the colourful new Nothing Headphone (a) targets a younger, hipper audience. It introduces a bass-biased sound signature, a friendlier price tag, and colourful flourishes.

The new cans weigh 310g and house 40mm titanium-coated drivers. These offer a "strong and durable structure" for a "powerful, distortion-free sound" across the claimed 20 Hz - 40,000 Hz frequency range.

The Bluetooth 5.4 wireless headphones support the hi-res LDAC codec for streaming up to 32-bit/96 kHz.

Noise cancelling comes in standard and transparency modes. Meanwhile, a hybrid ANC setting adapts in real time to your surroundings and the fit of your headphones. It reportedly offers up to 40 dB of depth and uses four mics.

Nothing also continues its collab with Sweden’s Audiodo for the Headphone (a), incorporating Audiosphere tech. While the recently announced Astell&Kern PD20 uses Audiodo’s know-how to shape sound to your hearing, here, it creates a natural and spacious experience by optimising how audio is perceived in real-world environments.

Audiosphere is said to combine spatial processing expertise with user-centric design principles - “expanding the perceived soundstage while remaining aligned with Nothing’s balanced, real-world tuning philosophy.”

However, perhaps the most noteworthy feature is the Headphone (a)’s staying power. It boasts a claimed 135 hours of playback with ANC off. When needed, a quick five-minute charge provides around five hours of listening if you are caught short.

Three main controls: a roller, a paddle, and a customisable button, offer simple user controls while comfort is catered for by a memory foam headband and earcups.

The Nothing Headphone (a) is available now for £149 | €159. Choose from white, black, or pink earcup finishes. A limited-edition yellow colourway arrives on April 6th.
