Nu-Vista Vinyl 2 Analogue Source Introduced To Musical Fidelity Range

Hot on the heels of the Nu-Vista DAC announcement, Musical Fidelity has shown off the new Vinyl 2 phono preamplifier, with new discrete and fully balanced audio circuitry inside.
Similar to the Nu-Vista DAC and other Nu-Vista products, the Vinyl 2 is built with aluminium front and side panels to minimise the effects of vibrations from the environment while acting as a Faraday Cage to protect the phono stage internals from electromagnetic interference.
Inside, the phono pre-amplification has three gain stages, all powered by Class A discrete transistor circuitry. The EQ stage is a split-passive design to obtain the ideal EQ curve's optimal and most accurate representation. The split-passive design allows for better impedance matching and lower deviation from the curve, with the RIAA, DECCA, and COLUMBIA curves available.
The audio signals get transferred from the phono preamplifier to a separate board for each channel with a fully balanced discrete class A Nuvistor Stage, and the RCA and XLR outputs have their own individual stage as well, allowing for both to be used at the same time.
Both the RCA and XLR inputs support MM/MC and can be individually set for either. The Vinyl 2 also uses Musical Fidelity's Super Silent Power Transformers, with industrial-grade power sockets utilising EMI filters and DC blockers to stop transformer hum. Each DC amp stage has a DC servo to ensure optimal DC mode, and there are two symmetrical low-noise power supplies, one for each channel for the preamplifier.
Of course, the upcoming Nu-Vista Uni PSU will also be compatible with the Vinyl 2, allowing for even better noise performance by moving the AC mains power supply into another box, which has more space for better mains and output filtering to quieten the supplies.
On the rear are two sets of XLR and RCA inputs alongside a single-ended RCA output and a balanced XLR output.
The Nu-Vista Vinyl 2 is priced similarly to the Nu-Vista DAC at £9,999, while we don't yet have a price for the Nu-Vista Uni PSU.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
