ONKYO AV RECEIVERS PRIMED FOR DOLBY ATMOS WITH NETFLIX

When it comes to streaming high quality movies, Onkyo and Netflix have one thing in common and it’s Dolby Atmos.
Netflix recently unveiled its ability to stream movies encoded with Dolby Atmos surround sound, a format that supports far more speakers than a typical Dolby Digital 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system,
Following the Netflix announcement, Onkyo was quick off the mark to point out that it has a suite of AV receivers primed and ready to process streamed and non-streamed Dolby Atmos flicks.
With the release of three 5.1 and 7.2 channel network AV receivers equipped with Dolby Atmos processors, Onkyo is poised to take pole position in the Dolby Atmos/Netflix stakes.
The new receivers have a suite of additional leading edge streaming features including FireConnect and Chromecast as standard features.
The new models can stream Dolby Atmos films and TV programs but they will also stream music from Apple or Android smart devices using the free Onkyo controller app.
Onkyo points out the latest data from ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association), music streaming has grown by more than 90 per cent in the past year.
A stellar growth rate that Onkyo has exploited beautifully by making App-integrated services such as Spotify, Deezer and Tunein available via the Onkyo controller app.
The app is clever enough to allow multi-room audio distribution when wireless speakers such as the brand’s NCP-302 model are part of a home audio system. With the app, users can effortlessly switch and play music in a room of choice.
The inclusion of Fireconnect and Chromecast on the new receivers gives control of the music playlist to anyone in the room armed with a compatible smart device.
Along with the new Atmos compatible receivers, Onkyo has also unveiled a budget-pleasing Bluetooth 5.1 channel receiver that also does music streaming as well as processing high-resolution audio. It will also do 4K HDR video pass-thru and has AccuEQ room calibration along with Bluetooth connectivity.
All the new receivers will link to multiple peripherals including games consoles, media players or Blu-ray players that can be connected to a TV via HDMI inputs using one cable.
The new models are: The $699 TX-SR373 5.1 channel Bluetooth AV receiver, $999 TX-NR474 5.1 channel receiver, $1199 TX-NR575E 7.2 channel AV receiver and the $1399 TX-NR676E 7.2 channel AV receiver.
The new receivers are available from JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Bing Lee and other independent and online retailers.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
