Pathos Aurium Headphone Amplifier

With a clear goal to reproduce music in the most authentic way, the Pathos Aurium potentially gives you a more powerful sound than you can ever imagine.

Founded in 1994 by the three Italian pioneers: Gaetano Zanini, Gianni Borinato and Paolo Andriolo in the Italian city Vicenza, the Pathos story started some years ago all by a small coincidence.

Gianni Borinato had an idea of a new amplifier circuit. From a simple idea, Pathos began serving innovative solutions with extraordinary designs which can be seen in their Pathos Aurium headphone amplifier.

Handcrafted in Vicenza, Italy, the Pathos Aurium follows a long tradition of Italian craftsmanship. It contains a pure class A circuitry, tube pre-stage and MOSFET power stage (with zero feedback) that gives off exquisite musicality and transparency with truly outstanding dynamics.

Pathos says the Aurium "has a delicious and insightful midrange, with a bass that boasts power and grip, pulling you in to give you a taste and experience of music how it is meant to be heard."

This distinctive headphone amplifier uses a pair of 6922 valves operating in Class A to handle pre-amplification duties, while a MOSFET output stage does the hard work of driving the headphones with its 3.6 watt power output.

Containing one stereo balanced XLR and three stereo unbalanced RCA line analog inputs, the Pathos Aurium gives you plenty of input options while also containing one XLR TAPE and one RCA line TAPE analog output, for added flexibility. The Pathos Aurium can be used for recordings or as a pass through if you want to integrate the Pathos Aurium to your main system.

With fine tuning being top of mind for the creators of the Pathos Aurium, this headphone amplifier features a balance control located on the back panel which allows you to tune the volume for different headphones to get the best out of your listening experience.

Combining transparency and grip in a fluid style, the Pathos Aurium performs with delicacy and expressive midranges that will continue to pull you in for more.

Pathos Aurium is available now for $1,995 RRP.

Pathos is distributed in Australia by Kedcorp.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
