Philips Fidelio X3 Headphones Finally Available

Philips luxurious Fidelio X3 headphones will finally be available to music lovers across all major European markets from the end of August 2020.

Philips' Fidelio X3 headphones (£299) were launched back at the start of the year. However, 2020 being what has been, I guess that we should be thankful that the relaunch of the Fidelio range with the X3 over-ear headphones still has managed to meet its summer release promise (just).

The open-backed cans are on sale from August 31st in the UK, and we are promised pampered levels of comfort thanks to the likes of responsibly sourced Muirhead leather from Scotland and Danish Kvadrat acoustic fabric.

Naturally, the high-quality continues through to the business end and the Fidelio X3's multi-layer 50mm drivers along with the optional balanced connection to guarantee optimal stereo separation. The headphones have a quoted 5hz to 40Khz bandwidth and 100 dB @ 1mW sensitivity.

The Hi-Res certified cans are said to combine accuracy with generous bass and a warm mid-range - where the focus is on a tight, impactful sound with exceptional separation of instruments and voices. The high-end of the spectrum is said to be clean, detailed and provides excellent extension, according to TP Vision, the Philips license holders.

The X3 costs £299 and will initially be available from Richer Sounds and AO.com with Selfridges and other leading retailers to follow in early September.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
