Polk React 5.1 Wireless Surround System Released

Polk has released its React wireless surround system, the heart of which is its DTS 5.1 virtual surround, Alexa-powered soundbar.
Polk's React Soundbar is packing Dolby Digital, DTS 5.1 virtual surround sound and Alexa Built-in. HDMI ARC makes it a cinch to hook-up your TV, and you can pair it with the Polk Audio SR2 wireless rear surround speakers and/or React Sub wireless subwoofer for a full 5.1 wire-free surround system. Bluetooth is also available for wireless music streaming.
Thanks to Polk Audio's proprietary Voice Adjust technology, you can boost the dialogue without cranking up the volume. There's also a Movie Mode and Music Mode to suit what you're using the React Soundbar for, while Night Mode reduces bass levels and enhances Voice Adjust so you can watch your film without keeping everyone else up.
Alexa Baked-in
The Baltimore-based company boasts that the React Soundbar sports the most robust Alexa integration amongst its peers thanks to Polk's long relationship with Amazon. The result is that the React Soundbar supports Alexa's Communication feature, giving you the ability to sync your contacts in the Alexa app and use voice commands to communicate with eligible friends and family from the soundbar for free. Additionally, React supports Alexa Multi-room Music for home-wide audio control.
Polk's new soundbar is also equipped with four far-field microphones. When combined with Amazon's proprietary wake word detection and echo cancellation tech, the React Soundbar will hear your commands, no matter how far you've turned the volume up.
Naturally, you can ask Alexa to play music and execute simple soundbar tasks such as adjusting volume and bass levels and selecting listening modes. You can also use the React to control Alexa compatible smart home gear.
SR2 Wireless Surround Speakers
The Polk Audio SR2 wireless surround satellite speakers employ powerful internal amplifiers and custom-tuned drivers. We're told to expect superb dispersion, providing the additional dimensionality that home theatre enthusiasts crave. As well as pairing wirelessly with the React Soundbar, and Sub, the Polk Audio SR2 surround speakers are compatible with Polk MagniFi 2 and future MagniFi and React series soundbars.
React Sub
The Polk React Sub wireless subwoofer delivers deep, impactful bass and is the ultimate enhancement for the React Soundbar. The React Sub features a 7-inch, long-throw woofer.
The React Sub's low-turbulence, flared port tube promises tight, responsive bass performance with plenty of impact. Polk's Bass Adjust EQ feature automatically adjusts the React series soundbar's settings to accommodate the React Sub's additional bass output. Because React series soundbars are controllable using Amazon Alexa, you can turn the bass level up or down by voice command.
The Polk Audio React Soundbar is priced at £249/ €299, the SR2 wireless surround speakers, £159/ €179 and the React Sub costs £179/ €199. All will be available on Amazon from mid-February.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
