Thanks in part to the current vinyl resurgence, the hankering for physical media is on the rise. Many brands are releasing new CD players, and Pro-Ject has now announced their new CD Box RS2 T Transport.

Eschewing a CD player with an in-built DAC, Pro-Ject recognised that most hi-fi owners will already own a good quality digital to analogue converter, whether a separate unit or part of an integrated amplifier. Additionally, this allowed them to concentrate purely on the transport mechanism.

Pro-Ject called upon the talents of their Viennese neighbour, Mr Michael Jirousek of StreamUnlimited, which has resulted in the use of StreamUnlimited's CD mechanism CD–Pro 8 and Blue Tiger CD-84 servo system. Pro-Ject declares that the top-loading CD Box RS2 T "takes playing standard Red Book Audio CDs to perfection."

The CD Pro-8 has the servo system directly integrated into its aluminium body which is suspended on a proprietary anti-vibration system. The CD mechanism is, in turn, stabilised and secured, unaffected by external influences.

The suspension system consists out of a rigid carbon fibre plate, carbon fibre tubes, springs, silicon dampers and screws. The suspension, cover and turntable platter is made of 100% carbon fibre.

Vibration dampers are mounted on the very rigid carbon fibre chassis, which further contributes to isolating the CD loader from the outside. Additionally, the whole chassis is firmly connected to the body of the CD Box RS2 T itself.

The CD mechanism has an improved, perfectly balanced clamp made of a new aluminium alloy.

Being a transport-only device, there are optical and coaxial S/ PDIF outputs to hook-up to your favourite DAC. The AES/EBU digital output over XLR goes one step beyond the quality of optical or coaxial signals, with the CD Box RS2 T offering an I²S+ Masterclock output over HDMI. Of course, Pro-Ject recommends pairing the CD Box RS2 T with their own Pre Box RS2.

The CD Box RS2 T is available in a precision machined aluminium case in silver or black colour options. A new remote control in a new entirely aluminium chassis is also included.

The CD Box RS2 T certainly looks the part and is available now for € 2,499 (MRSP incl. VAT).
