RUARK AUDIO MULTIROOM COMPATIBLE MRX WIRELESS SPEAKER
The British audio outfit, Ruark Audio, will soon release the MRx. This wireless speaker offers integrated Bluetooth with aptX, broadband internet connection to radio stations, plus Spotify, Deezer and Tidal, with a promise that Amazon Music will also be added soon.
Using driver technology know-how from their MR1, Ruark developed new full-range speaker units, especially for the MRx. These sport a new lightweight cone and coil assembly coupled with a neodymium magnet system. These drivers are mounted as a stereo pair into tuned bass reflex enclosures which are powered by a two-channel Class A/B amplifier.
The new speaker offers a combined 3.5mm optical and analogue input allowing auxiliary devices such as Google Chromecast Audio or Amazon Alexa to be connected. There's also a multi-purpose USB socket that enables the MRx to play music files from memory sticks, as well as providing a handy port to charge/power your smart devices.
The controller is located on the grille of MRx allowing volume and source to be changed. Ruark is also introducing a dedicated app for iOS and Android devices called ‘Link’.
This allows users full control of all MRx functions and also provides information on the source material being played.
Via the Link app, users can create and manage groups when two or more MRx units are being used together as part of a multi-room system. R2 Mk3 and R7 Mk3 are also compatible with MRx and can also be controlled with the Ruark Link app.
MRx will be available in New Zealand from June 2018 for $899 in Soft Grey or Rich Walnut Veneer.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
