Ruark R1 Radio Gets Beach Ready

Ruark's R1 radio gets a limited edition British beach hut-inspired makeover.
Ruark's R1 got a swish new design last year, and the fourth generation of the British brand's FM/ DAB+ radio has been given a beach-ready makeover.
Most of the UK has been enjoying uncustomary warm weather recently, so thoughts turn to (safely) heading to the coast. With this in mind, the Ruark R1 makes for a great seaside break buddy, especially now it is available in Beach Hut Blue.
The cool hue looks great on the acoustically inert enclosure that houses its Class A-B amplifier with adaptive equalisation and NS+ driver. All of which is topped off with the unmistakably Ruark RotoDial control.
Meanwhile, the clear OLED display shows time and programme information. Additionally, it automatically adjusts to suit light levels making it a perfect companion no matter if bedside or beachside (if you add the optional battery pack).
Boasting excellent reception of both Digital and Analogue transmissions in the UK, USA and Japan, and supporting most languages, the fourth-gen R1 is happy to make longer journies, too. Finally, thanks to battery backup, its real-time clock will always accurately show the time and date.
Other highlights include a quality Bluetooth receiver, USB-C charge and playback port, switchable auxiliary input and headphone output.
R1 Beach Hut Blue is a limited edition with only 1,000 units available and retails for £229.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
