As you would expect, Sonus Faber's new Lumina II and Lumina V both share the same exquisite build quality as their siblings from the 2020-launched range, such as the Applause Award-winning Lumina III floorstander. Furthermore, they are handmade in Italy alongside the company's more aspirational offerings.

The Lumina II and Lumina V have been designed to offer the "voice of Sonus faber" in both stereo and multichannel systems and are said to provide greater power handling and so are ideal for larger spaces.

Sonus faber Lumina II

The Lumina II joins its smaller bookshelf stablemate, the Lumina I, but trumps it with larger cabinet volume, enabling its 150mm mid-bass driver more room to make its presence felt.

The Lumina II remains compact and will happily sit in a bookcase or shelving unit, or on a stand used as a stereo pair, or as rear channels in a home cinema system.

Sonus faber Lumina V

The Lumina V is the new flagship floorstander in the range, taking the crown from the Lumina III.

The Lumina V boasts several key design elements, including the lute-shaped mid/high internal chamber: a unique feature created by Sonus faber and a central characteristic for the brand since its inception in the 1990s. The chamber apparently maximises structural rigidity and the acoustic performance of the midrange while simultaneously reducing standing waves.

The Lumina V also benefits from the manufacturer's so-called hybrid IFF crossover. According to Sonus faber, the mid/high crossover network combines Interactive Fusion Filtering, introduced in the Maxima Amator, with Paracross Topology, where reactive components (capacitors and inductors/coils) are placed on the negative rail of the circuitry. The upshot here is a promised reduction in the drivers' back EMF (Electro Motive Force), which should allow them to operate in a more "organic way" while simultaneously lowering the crossover's sensitivity to radio frequencies.

Gravis-matching Finishes

Handily for those considering the Lumina loudspeakers for A/V applications, including music, gaming and home cinema, they not only said to pair perfectly with Sonus faber's Gravis subwoofer models I, II and III, they also feature matching finishes and materials.

Benefitting from a multilayer wood front baffle available in three finishes, walnut and wengè with maple inlays, plus piano black, the cabinets are finished in black leather.

The Sonus faber Lumina II standmount has an RRP of £999, and the Lumina V floorstander costs £2,499. Both are available now and join the Lumina I standmount, Lumina III floorstander and Lumina Centre I centre channel speaker bringing the current Lumina range to five models.
