Sony HT-A7000 7.1.2 Atmos Soundbar Launched

As well as the flexible four-speaker HT-A9 wireless surround system, Sony has announced the HT-A7000 soundbar.

Sony's new flagship soundbar, the HT-A700, shares the fanfare with the company's HT-A9 360 sound-optimising speakers.

The HT-A7000 claims to squeeze a 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos-compatible and DTS:X-enabled system into its 1300x80x142mm (WxHxD) cabinet. Inside you'll find two upward-firing drivers, two beam tweeters and five front speakers.

Sony says that the HT-A7000 can create virtual surround sound calibrated to your room's acoustics. However, if you need to bolster that sense of immersion, there are the optional SA-RS3S wireless rear speakers at $349 (pair).

Naturally, the HT-A700 soundbar supports all the expected HDMI 2.1 features, including 8K video, Dolby Vision and 4K @ 120Hz. For streaming, it comes equipped with Chromecast built-in, Apple Airplay 2 and Bluetooth. Additionally, like the HT-A9, there is support for 360 Reality Audio and hi-res music, plus compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

If you are looking to further augment the HT-A700's built-in dual subwoofers, there's also a choice of two optional wireless subs: the SA-SW3 200-watt wireless subwoofer priced at $399 or the 300 Watt SA-SW5 costing $699.

The HT-A7000 model is priced at $1,299 RRP, with the SA-RS3S wireless rear speakers priced at $349 (pair).

The SA-SW5 optional subwoofer sells for $699, and the SW-SW3 optional subwoofer sells for $399.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
